Alan is such a great character. He's basically Gladion, but the in the anime.
Being a good character in the anime is an extremely difficult thing to do. I'm sure not even Gladion will be able to achieve this. Alan could've been Rival if he was in the games too.

Digimon's risks pretty much killed the franchise internationally with the shit they pulled in season 3. The japs only take risks when they're desperate and never when they have something that works.

Like I said in another thread Pokemon's anime needs to be scrapped and have it's entire concept reworked from the ground up.

End the original anime and replace it with yearly 30-40 ep seasons with replaceable MCs, upgrade the artstyle to be more appealing, and focus more on world building.

If the Pokemon anime was actually fun to watch for people that didn't have much interest in Pokemon but loved anime I'm sure it would increase game sales.

And hell you can't even have Ash and Pikachu replaced by another pair because then the charm of Ash's Pikachu is gone or replaced by some hollow fake nor can you replace Ash but keep Pikachu as that will destroy the charm of a boy and his rat on a journey.

Just look at some of the longest running anime/manga franchises. Barring straight up comedy series, almost all of them have their main character grow older, utilize timeskips, switch out protagonists, or just flat out create alternate universes and timelines.

Do you Dragonball would be a popular world-wide series still producing content across multiple mediums if Goku never stopped being a child and the entire supporting cast kept switching out after every arc except for Goku and Bulma?

I think they're testing the waters for things with a new MC, and that we'll get a second anime eventually.
