I recently did a run where I only used Snorlax and had 0 pokemon caught (aside from the required captures). Beat the E4 with Snorlax at lvl 80.

He didn't faint once, but almost got ko'd by a tentacool chain that spammed wrap and acid spray.

I know he was a jobber for most people, but mine had an adamant nature, my autism kept him 2 levels above the rest of the team, and for balance purposes, was the only pokemon on my team with a z-crystal

I was legitimately surprised by how usable he ended up being, especially with Charge Beam. Using a +2 SATK Shell Trap against Kahili's Brave Birds was great fun.

Decidueye was honestly just Ok.
Mudsdale started out shitting on everything, but near the end of the game, it really started lagging
Milotic was underwhelming for all the time I spent fishing for the Feebas. It has started to get good, though.
Salazzle is a glass cannon that always folded too soon
Alolan Ninetales was crummy starting out, but has gotten better over time

I guess Electrivire. Even as an Elekid, he was doing work. Still is now.

Toucannon AKA Sam, named after Sam wise.
He helped me through so much shit, and was the one that won me the champion title, and the most intense battle I've ever had, I didn't use EXP share so primarina, Golisopod, nebby, and toucannon were just about equal with the champion, lv.32 mimikyu was on my team cause I love the thing, and zygarde at lv.30 cause he's cool. was a real good fight.

Mine is also automatically a higher level because it's just pretty useful in a lot of situations.

It's not a bad Pokémon. None of the starters are, but some are obviously better than others. Since they automatically have pretty good stats for the main story the worst thing to happen to a starter is a bad movepool.

It took a while to get there, but by god. Charged Gigavolt Havoc tore through anything that wasn't outright immune. It stands out the most just for that.

Picked up a Diglett thinking I'd replace it as soon as I encountered some decent mons.

But damn, it really is the ultimate underdog. Every single Totem battle he proved to be worthy by using his glorious hair and Bulldoze to drop the speed of the Totems one level after another. After a while he got the coverage moves he needed to be able to defeat trainers himself and now it is just waiting to learn Iron Head and Earthquake to become basically unstoppable. It might be really fragile, but Dugtrio is one of my most unexpected mons in almost 20 years of playing Pokemon and while I wanted to drop it at first for Zygarde 10%, it will stay in my team until the whole game has been beaten.

Also my Decidueye was the only other main pokemon I used. It turns out it had good HP IVs. It was far from perfect but it did its job well enough. Enough attack to usually one shot its weaknesses but tank enough to take a few hits. Learns Sucker Punch and was usually fast enough where it mattered for other moves.

Dropped off pretty hard around E4 but was still good enough to keep Brave Bird in the bench.

I lucked out and got a Modest nature with this one. Nothing was able to survive the Spirit Bomb, neither Totem pokemon, Kahunas and the League.

Does anyone just kind of switch between mains? I just switched out Mudsdale for Stufful bc they fill the same niche, but Snorlax has been with me the longest so far due to money exploits.

Bewear, Mudsdale, Ribombee, Alolan Muk, Tsareena, Midday Lucanrock.

Every pokemon more than carried their weight. Annihilated the E4 and Kukui to become champion. Big props to Bewear and Mudsdale. Those were two pokemon I had only caught as filler or to complete the dex. I had no interest in either otherwise but, holy shit, were they good.

Muk is so good. I went into everything underlevelled and Poison Touch saved my ass so many times

I'm on my way to the grass trial, so far it's been Mudsdale. Outside of Torracat and him the team's been totally fucking useless to me.

Yet I have to fight ace trainers with sylveon ect 3 levels higher than my average with a bunch of NFE shitmons, the game is hard but this is tedious when you get 2HKO by swift for fuck's sake.

I restricted myself to only pokemon that shared one type with my starter. I chose Popplio.

My final team, then, was Primarina, Ribombee, Toxapex, Gyarados, Shiinotic, and Mimikyu.

Most performed well, but the ones that REALLY stole the show were these two.

Decidueye is absolutely awesome. Eats hits for days with its bulk, Roosts off the damage and hits surprisingly hard (mine has Brave nature tho). Also, its movepool is exceptionally good for a Grass-type (starter) Pokemon: Leaf Blade, Spirit Shackle, Brave Bird, U-turn, Swords Dance, Roost.

Zygarde 10% is weaker than your fully-evolved starter, while Zygarde 50% is still on par with the numerous pseudos you can have at roughly the same point in the game or even long before in the case of Salamence while not having an Ability that does anything other than delay every battle by half a second each time it comes out of that Pokeball.

Went into Sun and Moon mostly blind and didn't know what Popplio would evolve into, I always stuck with water starters though and even if I didn't like Popplio itself that much I had hope that it would evolve into something amazing, and it totally did. Primarina saved my ass during the elite four multiple times, she took out at least 2 pokemon each off of Acerola, Olivia, and Kahili but I was running out of revives and she managed to sweep 4 members of hala's team by herself despite being about 7 levels underleveled. Primarina also took out the champions biggest threats being the Lycanroc and Snorlax, even if she didn't get the last hit in. Seriously the champion is super hard if you don't use exp share, are 10 levels underleveled, and have battle mode set on, was fucking brutal but barely scraped the win thanks to the revives that she saved me.

Thanks to this game, I found a new favourite pokemon.

Man Snorlax, It was only a day when you joined my party as a Cute little Munchy. Falling asleep in the middle of a battle with a slowpoke. Demolishing everything and metronome'ing Giga Impact Twice, Magnet Rising, Hyper Beam, Ice/Fire Punch, Earthquake, High Horsepower and Yawn.

And soon enough you evolved, And you totally carried me to the top. You toughened so many hits and even survived two explosions in a single battle, I can't wait to see how we face red and blue soon my friend.
