Before One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh was the pinnacle of bad dubbing (along with Sailor Moon but that wasn't 4kids). I remember being 13 and getting SO angry over everything they cut out and all the changed music and stuff, and this was back before we had easy access to subs.

I never really got into One Piece so I didn't really think the dub was worse than any other 4kids dub. Chris Thorndyke X was shit even in Japanese.

I feel like TPCI is at an impasse right how. Ash's VA has seemed to reach her limit. The delivery in SM was her best with the character yet, but the voice itself is just bad. She can't get better from here, they can only replace her. Too bad seniority is a thing. She's EARNED the role by now. It's been what, a decade? She's on her way to being the Sean Schemmel of Pokemon.

Goldfarb is another odd case. John Loeffler plain stopped giving a damn after the switch and it showed. Goldfarb has loads of potential, but he's not utilizing it, or being allowed to utilize it. I like the SOUND of his themes, but the arrangements are lazy. I wanna see what he does with a longer intro now.

Honestly, I wish they'd replace his current voice actress with the Sophocles VA since that's a closer match to a boy and to his OG one (I'm surprised I like Sophocles dub voice because honestly I HATED Bonnie's, and it's the same VA), but it really sucks we're stuck with this.

The current Ash voice just doesn't fit the younger design for SM, but it's more TPCi's fault for casting her in the first place. Team Rocket is still 200 times worse, though, I hate it when that nasally faggot that voices both James & Oak now talks, and his dialogue makes me die a little on the inside- I just mute the audio or skip scenes when they talk, not gonna lie.

Yes, Loeffler didn't give a fuck when he came back, I don't know what the hell happened either. Yeah, it's the laziness in Goldfarb's case that gets to me- he can actually do good ending themes, so I don't get why the fuck his score is so bad.

I wouldn't be surprised if TPCi are telling him to make his music worse, honestly, they seem to enjoy sucking the talent out of people. Even though Gary's VA was the only one who got to stay, he was shit in the DP dub despite being in the role since Season 1, and I don't even have words to explain it.

I agree on Eric Stuart, he'll always be Brock & James to me in the dub: these guys TPCi cast have never and will never do it for me.

I wish they'd bring back the guy who did him before Maddie did from the first 30 or so episodes, even though Maddie is the one I liked most for Meowth over Mr. Computer Room, but I get what you're saying. Japanese Marge Simpson isn't much better, unfortunately.

Veronica Taylor gave Ash character in the dub: you could feel every emotion he felt in her delivery, and he sounded like a genuinely hot-blooded boy who was determined to reach his goal.

Sarah Natochenny just has no passion for Ash even after 10 years, and always sounds so monotone: not helping is that all I hear when she does her Ash voice is a grown woman doing a pretty strained, forced voice, either.

I miss Eric Stuart as James, Maddie Blaustein as Meowth, Rachael Lillis as Jessie, and whoever wrote the dialogue pre-TPCi, 4Kids TR was golden. TPCi TR is fucking unbearable.

Kids don't really watch TV anymore. Youtube and Hulu are much better ways to get straight to the shit they WANT to watch. Some shows still hit TV first and manage to be popular, but that's usually due to exposure from fans of the foreign versions of those works. NA-original content usually gets shoved by the wayside outside of certain circles (/co/, as an example, could probably tell you about a lot of the cartoons out this season, but your average joe on the street, even a kid, couldn't tell you anything).

TV, however, can't really be used on the go, cable especially. TV is a dying breed, kept alive by the previous generations clinging to it.
