I'd be fine with Ash's change if they didn't round out his hair, make his cheek squiggles bigger and fatten his eyebrows.

I said this before in another thread so I'm happy I'm not the only one that feels this way. I couldn't watch XY because I hadn't liked the way Pokemon was drawn for years.

People who call the SM anime shit don't understand that smear frames aren't bad. If they remember being a kid in the 90s (which I can assure you most of these shitters weren't even around for), they'd remember how much more fluid cartoons were back then, and I really love how the new season is sort of hearkening back to that. Of course, it's still an anime, which have all sorts of budget constraints and work-arounds, but I can tell you for sure that the new style is a million times more animated and expressive than the stale plastic style that we've been stuck with for years.

Why cares, the pokemon anime is fucking trash.

The only reason to watch it is to see pokemon do things.

The characters, character development, and arcs have been done better in a thousand other series, including mediocre shit like Naruto.

I don't have fantastic standards, I think the show is entertaining, but telling anyone that this is written with actual skill and nuance is insanity.

It's a show for preschoolers and they're not exactly hiding it. No amount of "Strategy"(Nothing fucking changed there other than the success rate, anime strats mean nothing because theres no rules) or censored kisses is going to change that

I wouldn't bother about the transition if it didn't lead to one of the dullest series in the history of Pokemon series. Each episode following the boy trainer and his pals from Pokemon School as they fight Team Rocket and the Team Skull bullies has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the saccharine imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of animation, all to make Pokemon unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when TPC approved the idea of Tomiyasu directing the series; they made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody? Just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for their games. The Sun & Moon series might be anti-Shonen (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-One Piece series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

Their characterization is dreadful; their screentime is terrible. As I watched, I noticed that every time a girl had the focus, the animator drew instead that the character with a "suggestive pose".

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Matsui's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Sun & Moon by the same /a/. They wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching Sun & Moon at 9 or 10, then when they get older they will go on to watch Keit-ai." And they were quite right. They were not being ironic. When you watch "Sun & Moon" you are, in fact, trained to watch Keit-a.

I watched the anime for the first time in over a decade, that first episode of Sun/Moon

I have no intention of watching it any further, but it's definitely better animated than what it was because I went and watched an episode of the X/Y anime right after and the latter barely qualified as animation.

Sure it looks more simplified now, and maybe this isn't my place to say since I'm not a fan of the series, but isn't a simpler art style with fluid animation preferable to detailed still images?
