Maybe? X/Y/OR/AS you had to ignore almost every new feature to have a challenging time. Flipping off just the exp share did not work. In Sun/Moon, flipping it off basically solves all the difficulty issues.

I honestly cant grasp the AI in this game. Sometimes it kicks me in the balls but other times it just drinks gallons of paint.

As a quick example, Minior gives E4 Olivia's Probopass a stroke as long as it still has the shell. It will try to Twave you but Shields Down prevents status rendering it moot. Something I noticed with the AI is when they find that something doesnt work, they generally switch it up. Not so in this case as it just kept using Twave to no avail. I've had similar situations with other encounters but this one stood out the most.

Sometimes Gamefreak forgets to update the AI with routines to deal with new abilities, so it doesn't understand that thunder wave isn't working on Minior and just keeps using it. It didn't know about the storm drain buff in gen V either, or that the -ate abilities increased its damage in gen VI.
