It was broken in Gen 6 though.

Gen 7's Exp Share doesn't divide it among the party equally. It gives more to the weaker members, and less to the higher-levelled ones.

I had it on for 1 battle because I didn't expect the game to turn it on.
I also turned off the switching option because Toxapex would make the game easy otherwise.

I got to the end and was 10 levels below the league. It was annoying as fuck. They were one and two-shotting all of my Pokemon, even with resistance to their moves. I just generally had a shit team this time around, too. All slow as fuck, and a lot of overlapping weaknesses. This is what happens when you're a Karenfag, though.

Outside of that, though, I never really needed the EXP share at all. I imagine if you used it, you'd be massively overleveled for most of the game, and then appropriately leveled for the E4.

Except that it's always been the default? Set is fair for a single one-on-one battle, but when I'm slogging through this fucking game, fighting trainer after trainer, shift just makes it more convenient. It's not like any of the battles are actually fucking hard, it's just the difference between having to soak up that extra hit when you switch.

Besides, 90% of the trainers in this game only have one fucking Pokemon on them. It really doesn't matter at all.

I wish I'd done this because I didn't touch the exp share for the whole game and ended up underleveled to the point where repels didn't work for me before the elite four and there was nowhere to grind, wild battles don't seem to give much even with SOS battles

Spot on. And SM has somewhat accounted for how OP exp.share is unlike gen 6. I turned it on for a few levels at the 2nd and 4th island and left it off for the rest of the story.

I had it on for a bit and realised I was overleveled so then I turned it off and kept it off until Poni Island where I stopped to catch Dhelmise for my 6th team member. After grinding Dhelmise from lvl 18 to 45, I was tired so I switched exp share back on because wild Pokemon were suddenly on par with mine level wise. Exp Share allowed me to chug thru the rest of the game in 1 evening, which was quite enjoyable. So worth it.

Exp share is fine in gen 7 and I have no reason not to use it.

If it was fine in gen 1-5 it's fine now.

All these tards that think exp is boosted cause exp share. It gas nothing to do with that. It is based on levels. If you level is lower than the defeated poke then you get more exp, if it is higher you get less.

Put a level 1 in front of your party and switch to a level 70 against a level 50 pokemon. The level one will get like 4k exp and the level 70 gets like 300.

If you want a 'fair' experience, best to go no exp.share until after the first lusamine battle.

This is what I did.
The only time I felt the need to grind at all was after the Gladion fight at Mt. Lanakila because he came dangerously close to handing me my first loss of the game, and I knew I'd be stupidly underlevelled for the Elite 4 judging by his levels there.
