Not that guy, but the fact that the physical, special and stall set all had completely different counters so there was no safe switch in was a big reason why it got banned.
Same with Greninja, whose physical moveset became far more viable with tutors, thus making it less predictable.

Having multiple viable sets in an environment without scouting does increase a Pokémon's potential dramatically, though. It makes sense for it to be a factor in banning something.

I'd say it would be better if the games were designed so that hacking offered minimal benefits. I don't hack myself and have been frantically scrambling to SR things for the VGC circuit starting on Gen 7 next week, and I sure don't blame people who do

It's kind of awkward because a lot of high-level players don't see obtaining the Pokémon as part of the game and are put off by having to spend a long time in-game, while a lot of low-level players are put off by the feeling that other people are cheating. There really isn't a nice compromise when putting a single team together does take dozens of hours.

Lucario got banned because it countered MegaMom.

Most of Smogons early gen VI bans were because said mons countered MegaMom.

Gengar wasn't even recurring but was used as a hard check to MegaMom because you could literally Mega and keep the bitch in and set up a sub to then Disable her Sucker Punch and kill her for free. Smogon retards thought this was unhealthy and banned it.

Lucario could also potentially two shot a MegaMom with Vacuum Wave if you got lucky on the change or one shot with Close Combat. Same shit occured again where Smogon retards bitched about it.

Smogon doesn't care about balance. Just about what is comfy for them.
