Should Pokemon keep the trio of starters to grass/fire/water?

That's what people said about the Gym formula, and look where we are now.
Maybe a Pokemon game where the Trainers are made to require a faster mastery of battling, or something like that, we will see the traditional type trio be changed up. Or maybe they can just eliminate the type trio and do something like Ghost/Dark/Psychic and let us be a Hex Maniac

Stop making new starters and let us choose from any of the previous starters.

Or no starters at all and we have to catch something on route 1 safari zone style instead.
