I usually collect Mantis on a jar since they are pretty rare to come across one and spot them in the vegetation

I raised mantis.
I had 2 that weren't native to my region so they lived in captivity and died in captivity. They're really cool bugs and some species are more chill about humans and will hang out on your monitor while you work.
I had several others that were natives that I would raise and take care of. The last one I had laid several oothecas. I was taking care of all the babies but my brother thought their jars were in the way and moved them. Turned out he put them by the heater and they all cooked to death.
Mantis are kinda hard pets to raise initially tho because when they're nymphs, you have to learn to accept that 99% of them will die or eat eachother. And theyre so small their food source is a pain to take care of. When theyre bigger tho, basically you can just give them anything. Find any fucking annoying pest in your house? Feed it to the mantis!
Unfortunately they only live about a year in most species. Usually less.
