post dem best types, and by that i mean them wetmons.
we have ghost threads way too often anyways.
>>30344732
It's a pity Corsola didn't get an evo this gen. It would have been the perfect opportunity to do it.
Cutest sea weasel
>>30344732
>>30344732
I love what this gen did for water and bug types. Mareanie and toxapex especially. Dex entries are informative, two echinoderms, predator prey relationships, all were great.
>>30344752
>evo? mega? alola? some kinda buff?
>nah let's give it a rival
John Gamefreak pls
>>30344732
>we have ghost threads way too often anyways
what's wrong with threads dedicated to the best type in existence?
Swampert is cute!
>>30344774
the body on this thing confuses me a slight bit, though I guess at this point the legs above are only there to hold up a bubble until evolution lets it just exist on its own
>>30344802
it isn't very cash money to cycle through the same hundred pictures every thread
though feel free to post best anchor or fossil
>>30344889
Great taste. I find it funny that the seaweed anchor is at the end of a bunch of who beats who dex entries describing who's basically the king of the sea.
>>30344732
I keep forgetting that Golisopod is part Water. Despite being an isopod, I can't stop thinking that it's part Steel or Fighting.
>>30344889
how the fuck
>>30344912
Isn't there one NPC who says that they hunt for food by whirlpooling so hard it drags in fish pokémon right towards them?
also they're fuckin huge
>>30344991
I find Ohkoing wailords a feat of great admiration, despite the relative ease in an actual battle.
>>30344991
>that trainer
gross
>>30345040
only picture i can find of the size comparison sadly.
Mareanie is mai waifu. Fuck corsolas.
Wait corsola is fucking cute even if entirely useless. Fuck.
I guess I'll just get my mareanie used to pokebeans so she doesn't eat poor pokecoral.
>>30345161
If what've read from NPCs is anything to go by, Mareanie are more terrifying that dangerous since they pull off the coral bits off of Corsola
Though in Aether it was said that Toxapex really are driving the Alolan Corsola to the endangered species list on account of being a lot more vicious, I think.
>>30345368
Dex describes mareanie as something that only goes for the branches and can be dissuaded by ditching one.
Toxapex is described as a mobile fortress of doom, leaving scattered remains of corsola in its wake. That and its poison is supposedly much worse.
Have frogs.
>>30345449
>>30345368
Mareanie just wants to eat, don't bully her.
I do wonder what Mareanie and Toxapex eat when Corsola aren't around though. It seems like they can get just about anything that lives on the seafloor like crabs and the like. On that note, what eats Toxapex? It's name comes from Apex predator so it's essentally at the top of the food chain, so I wonder how it would stack up against bigger Pokemon like Sharpedo or Seadra.Would Toxapex hunt Cradily? Who would win?
>>30345511
The starfish it's based on its the reefs apex predator with impenetrable defenses.
Anything with mobility and a bit of brain just avoids it. Thus, the species is slowly annihilating the coral reefs.
Probably something similar in Toxapex case.
Any pokémon slow enough on the seafloor is doomed, and the faster ones clear of the area.
>The only reason I even know what Mareanie/Toxapex are is because of the scarce NPCs who have them
I fucking loathe the distribution in this fucking shit game.
>>30344991
>>[Dhelmise] maintains itself with new infusions of seabed detritus and seaweed.
So, hypothetically speaking, the Anchor is just a base form for gameplay's sake, and it's entirely possible for a Dhelmise to be anything the spooky seaweed attaches itself to, right? A ghost ship or a Wailord husk could classify as a Dhelmise if enough 'seaweed' got onto it.I'm pretty sure the 'seaweed' isn't actually the soul of fucking seaweed, rather it's some disgusting amalgam of all the souls of things that have been killed in the ocean and they all cling to seaweed to find something else to cling to. It explains the ghost typing.
>>30345511
Going on real world logistics, crown of thorns only really have to worry about triton snails and Australian killer robots. Harlequin shrimp, triggerfish, and fire worms as a minimal threat.
Dex mentions that lumineon picks at starmie or yu arms, but doesn't do enough damage that they can't instantly recover. Maybe it also goes for toxapex. I guess bruxish as well perhaps.
Cradily are probably either extinct or limited to deeper water, but since they aren't coral, they'd probably be fine.
Mareanie is cute but nothing touches omanyte.
Why is Toxapex's design so shitty?
>Inner body gets smaller and less detailed
>Tentacles stop looking like tentacles and just become firm flaps on a dome
It goes from being a cute, organic design into something you'd see on a robot battle show.
>>30345511
I'm not sure if anything much can actually eat them since they're spiny and poisonous like their real life counterparts
A while back someone mentioned a robot created specifically to lethally inject the adundant crown of thorn starfish population to death, and then compared it to Magnezone. so there's your hard counter, I guess
>>30345639
And it turns into a mini-kraken which is kind of neat
>>30345648
Reminds me of an urchin skeleton. Most echinoderm skeletons are just elongated and altered versions of this. Sans sea lilies a believe.
>>30345669
Omaster is cool but I appreciate omanyte's simplicity and cuteness more personally.
>>30345616
>wailord husk
>we will never get a dhelmise controling the skeleton of another pokemon
>>30345678
I suppose, but even then, the two flaps that open up are so rigid and square. Like a lot of designs this gen, they didn't really put much effort into making it look organic.
Also Mareanie is just so much cuter. They made so many fucking waifumons this gen, why couldn't Toxapex have been at least a little cute too?
>>30345700
I like how unassailable it looks, but it would've been nice if it looked noticeably cuter underneath.
>>30345648
>toxapex less organic
>looks more like a real echinoderm than 'when mareanie was there'
>>30345616
>>30345698
Dhelmise's concept just seems so weird and confused to me. It's design itself is an anchor attached to a steering wheel with a compass attached to that, which doesn't really make sense on its own. Then, you tell me that Dhelmise itself isn't actually that face-shaped pile of objects, but rather, it's just the seaweed, or the GHOST of seaweed, controlling these objects, and that every single Dhelmise just happens to be controlling the same exact objects?
Random-object pokemon are always gonna have the same stuff, like how all Klefki in-game have the same keys, but this is just a massive stretch of disbelief, and just a convoluted idea for a species in general.
>>30345700
>>30345648
>waah it stopped being mah waifu... bring back sea tomoko waaah
You fucks are the MOST obnoxious
>>30345623
How intresting! Knowing that Toxapex is based off such a dangerous animal makes me like it even more.
>>triton snails
Oh wow, it's pretty funny to imagine something as hyped up as Toxapex getting taken out by a snail of all things. I'd love if they introduced a snail Pokemon in gen 8 with the sole purpose of fucking over Toxapex, especially since it's such a potent threat to the meta.
>>30345652
>robots made to kill crown of thorn starfish
That's pretty morbid, but I know reefs are already in danger and it doesn't look like nature can really take them out. This thread is reminding me that I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was younger, but when I studied the ocean I learned that it was scary as fuck. Now I have a phobia of deep sea because I don't wanna think about all the crazy shit that's under there. It might as well be another planet.
>>30345769
Do you REALLY find Toxapex's design to be appealing?
>>30345786
Yes? I love echinoderms.
Your opinions aren't fact, but hey thanks for proving my point.
>>30345769
Fite me irl Anon. Sea Tomoko is an angel. AN ANGEL!
>>30345786
Not him, but I find it cute because it's ugly. Kind of the same way people find pugs and white men cute.
Between the two, I obviously prefer Mareanie, but I'm not going to bemoan Toxapex because it turned into an extremely dangerous toxic tank.
>>30345678
That is a purple nutsack.
This thread needs more best water mon
devastating electric attacks and either voltabsorb or H2O-absorb, strongest watermon ever and a real bro
>>30345786
I like it a lot even though Mareanie is cuter. I wish it had 2 segments coming from its head like Mareanie not 1.
>>30345827
How dare you? My waifu is a white man.
...
...wait.
>>30345700
The flaps and shit are based on the design of a samurai's helmet, actually.
If you notice, they all tend to have demonic looking face masks with lower jaw tusks (like Toxapex's face) and those slicked back plates that bend backwards, like Toxapex's two front legs.
>>30345892
Its design is shit for an anglerfish though. Being introduced in the generation where damn near everything had to be kawaii really hurt it.
>>30346082
still i couldnt think of a better bro. since i also love swimming i really wish i could have one as my partner
though i really think it is hard to have only a lanturn as pokemon. normally it cant just "float" in midair.
>>30344991
Im guessing this was done by some tumblrina
>>30345511
Pokebeans.
>>30344991
vomit-inducing art
>>30345778
that's the excitement of deep sea exploration, you never know what you can find and could potentially be one of the people responsible for discovering and classifying a whole new species.
can't deny that the idea of some freaky giant squid or something attacking you sounds horrible though.
>>30346144yes it was
>>30346172
If it makes you feel better, even the slightest leak at that depth could cause the tiniest stream of water to easily be able to cut through flesh. A squid really would be the least of your problems.
>>30346201
either get gored by the fricken water or get pulled into a squids beak. tough choice
I'm learning way too much about Sea creatures, please don't stop now anons.
Would a Triton snail pokemon be pure Steel or Steel/Electric since irl they paralyze the stars?
>>30346246
>>30346201
>water pressure on top of all the spooky deep sea shit
Nope.avi
It's scary even to think about. Whenever I wanna pull all nighters, I think about being a sub deep underwater and scare myself into staying up all night. Fuck the real ocean. Water Pokemon are my limit.
tfw buffed
only took 15 years
i want to take a bath with vaporeon while giving it a full body hug and covering it in slippery lotion
>>30346302
More than likely, though I can see it being pure water with immunity and a selection of electrical moves. Maybe even pull a Dhelmise and give it it's own 'STAB on electrical attack' ability, though that's reaching a bit for since at that point you might as well make a 'STAB on X' ability for other mons as well, rather than keeping it unique to Dhelmise
>>30344732
>>30346395
Maybe a hidden ability that allies it to crush through the defense moves like Baneful Bunker and Protect. Literaly bite/scrape through it to get to the flesh bits.
Nature is fucking horrifying, but I love it.
>>30344794
It did get a buff.
Between these 2 and Milotic, Water has jumped up on my list of favorite types.
>>30346439
Shit that's not a bad idea. Might even be able to name the snail something related to 'bunker buster' or something.
>>30346439
>>30346543
>new snail hasexactly 1 base speed higher than Toxapex
>ability allows it to ignore Protect and shrug off the after affects of attacking a shield
>signature move can either have 100% paralyze chance or trap the target
>Electric/Steel or Electric/Water with poison immunity
Might get fucked by the rest of the ocean but damn if it doesn't kill a Toxapex dead.
>>30346514
that Model icon doesn't do it justice
>>30346663
it's be entertaining at least
anyways though back the thread
>>30346514
what kind of set would be best for those two anyways? I've been brain storming a few ideas
>Adamant Golisopod
-First Impression
-Aqua Jet
-Taunt
-Sucker Punch
>Adamant Araquanid
-Leech Life
-Liquidate
-Aqua Ring
-Scald
and leftovers for both, I guess. I'm no team builder so that's why I'm asking
>>30346829
Taunt should be replaced with leech life.
I run this
Adamant
252 attack/defense 6 hp
Leech life
First impression
Aqua jet
Sucker punch
Not sure on item, assult vest?
>>30346663
>That spoiler
Holy fuck, I thought the same thing
Shit would be hilarious and actually sounds pretty useful or fun. The Bunker bursting gimmick plus that signature could mean basically FUCK STALL
Imagine if it also destroyed substitute in one hit no matter the damage. Or just ignored it
>>30346900
See I was thinking Taunt just to ensure a fuck you sucker punch, though thinking back survivability should have been a priority with emergency exit existing.
>>30346916
yeah I'd be down for all of that. too bad there's no way of that happening now, though
>>30346900
You take HP EVs instead of defense.
>>30347072
Defense is higher, wouldn't it be better to invest in no?
>>30344752
>perfect opportunity to do it.
What makes this an opportunity?
>>30346829
I'd use leech life instead of taunt but really anything could go there, it doesn't see that much use because of its speed but the occasional recovery is nice
As far as the item goes I've been using the red card. works petty well with emergency exit as it drags out a random member of the opponents team and you get to switch in an appropriate counter. Also comes in handy when your opponents starts setting up. You could go life orb for that little extra damage. Or leftovers or assault vest for longevity
>>30347211
I feel like an ass vest would be better.
>>30347189
A chance for prey to adapt to a new threat
>>30344732
best type. i've nearly trained every single one of them for my roster because i love them so much. the addition of water types has never disappointing in any gen and there's so many great new ones in Alola.
>>30344732
I'm never forgetting that comic posted yesterday about this two being a couple and ending tragically awful

Mareanie has that "anime introvert" look. The girl with unkept black hair which she hides her heavily bagged eyes behind
I don't really watch moeblob stuff but I'm sure people could post examples
>>30353431
Crown of Torns Stafishes (what Marinea and Toxapex are based on) are growing out of control in some part of the globe and are devastating coral reefs. So to reduce there numbers to a much more stable on, scientists came up with a scuba bot that would injects Crown of Torns with a deadly poison and then redirect the bodies somewhere else. It's still work in progress do.
