I haven't gotten past Vast Poni Canyon in my run, however, so there are still probably lots of songs I haven't heard yet. But with how the OST's been so far, I'm expecting the best.

Not even generations, but also games.
You can hear hints of Colosseum in lusamine first battle them, vast poni canyon is straight out of mystery dungeon, koni koni and ten carat hill straight from unova, malie from johto, etc.
All this while the region has it's own style

This is literally the best song in the entire franchise. Gen 3 and 4's soundtracks are completely unmemorable, but SM's OST is fantastic.

1's alright, but seems less memorable than 2's, and 6 and 7 lack identity. They sound like alternate BW2 soundtracks, often without that epic soundfont. That said I like the different skull battle themes.

The part at 0:57 of the Kahuna battle theme always makes me think of the "Gym leader's last Pokemon" theme from Gen 5, and the part from 1:11 to 1:42 I would swear came straight out of Gen 4, especially those "tink-a-tink"ing synths starting at 1:23.

Not to mention that the part at 0:32 caught me incredibly off guard and made me feel so happy inside. (The first time I listened to this song was when some of the OST was being leaked onto YouTube, before I knew that it's just a remix of the island trial theme.) But my first time hearing the song was such a whirlwind of different feelings and eras of nostalgia. It's really something special.

I personally think gen 1's music is super stand-out, at least in part to things like the first season of the anime basically being my lifeblood as a kid, and loving the music on Poke Floats in Melee.

And though I love gen 2 and 3's music, a lot of their battle themes blend together in my mind. In gen 2's case, it's because I never really heard remixes of the themes growing up so they all sound too similar in my brain with the Gameboy sound chip. But in gen 3, not only did the composer fall into a rut with the soundfont (other songs in the game DEFINITELY sound more distinct than the trumpet meme makes them out to be, like Slateport, Fortree, and Route 113 for example), but the general composition of gen 3's battle themes are all incredibly samey, following extremely similar tempos, chord progressions, and riffs. It wasn't until gen 4 that battle themes started becoming more memorable to me again.

Anyway, I feel like each gens' music excel in one or a handful of specific categories. Gen 1 excels at battle themes, gen 2 town themes, gen 3 route themes, gen 4 dabbled a little bit in every category, gen 5 is the same, gen 6 routes, and for gen 7 I'm gonna have to give it to battle themes. Anyone else have a perspective similar to this, where you remember one aspect of a gen's music better than its other aspects?

RSE soundtrack was my favorite until SM surpassed it. They made detailed music that was still Pokémon game music, best soundtrack ever. DPPt was also great.

Beside sthe obligatory ALL TEAM SKULL THEMES EVER! response, I really enjoyed the E4 theme, a LOT more than i should have. Also Po Town was really well done. The music and the rain together gave the place the rundown shithole feel that really exemplified a place that was shat on by the Tapu's for defying their will and all that.

I've got to admit I didn't pay much attention to the soundtrack aside from Skull encounters but during Nebby's fight I realised that I loved the song. I started paying attention after and the soundtrack for this game is great.

Since all the battle themes have been posted, here's a gem I didn't really notice until I started listening to the soundtrack. Lillie's development was nice but didn't think much of it until I started listening to the soundtrack and her theme songs and reading all the pansy Youtube commentors who miss her. Now I realize I kind of miss her presence in-game too, her theme and all the variations made her scenes a lot more memorable and touching, particularly this version after you catch Lunala/Solgaleo.
