Just completed the Melemele dex today.
Filling the Dex in Sun and Moon is fun for some reason.

Completing my dex one kangaskhan at a time on the GTS...no seriously people are eating these things up.

For me it's because it informs you every time you obtain a new one, not just when you catch it like in previous games. You get to see it slowly fill up.

Don't have the UBs, most trade evolutions, and a few other pokemon yet. I'm stuck in autism mode, trying to catch Nihilego with perfect IVs and Timid nature, even though I'll never use it.

For the trade evolutions get a machoke,ask for a kadabra on gts, then for a gravelly, etc for the non item ones. Afterwards put politoed with kings rock on gts and start going for the item evolutions.

I'm getting fucking cancerous tumors growing on me trying to fish for those 10% pieces of shit. No joke, it took me almost a fucking HOUR just to find a SINGLE Dratini on Poni Gauntlet, meanwhile, it took me less than ten minutes to find Sharpedo on Poni Breaker Coast.
These encounter rates are beyond bullshit.

Just finished the whole dex last night. Cosmoem was the last thing I needed. Now I can finally move on and start breeding/shiny hunting. Finding a castform was the worst.

Slowly getting there...fishing is so fucking obnoxious when the only damn thing that appears are fucking magikarp.

I'm at around 10% in Alola, but I have a full living gen 1-6 dex up in bank right now. I've been going really slow through moon -- I'm around halfway-- and haven't started sun; I'm hoping to import everyone from Gen 6 so I can not only have an extra hand in catching legendaries, but enter the alola hall of fame with my bromons.

Have you tried fishing in the ripple spots? Gives you at least a 10% chance to find the rarest fish.

I can't be bothered evolving shit but I think I've caught everything catchable on Melemele (bar Salamance and Shelgon), and started on Akala

I finished mine the other night and immediately starting hatching Crabrawlers. Hatched two shinies put one up on gts for a second type null so I could do a living dex sometime on the future.
