Red is a literal who 10 year old kid who was so unpleased by his champion status that he left. He didn't have riches or a job because he's a fucking kid and doesn't come from a resourceful family. He's like a hollywood child star who's manipulated by execs, he doesn't control his life in the industry the way adults like Lance and Cynthia do nor is he a spoiled brat who's taken care of by beardy mcdragon like Iris either. Him leaving totally fits.

I'd say it's the other way around. Most NPC types reflect hobbies moreso than occupations. Gentleman, Lady, Hiker, Swimmer, Picnicker. Hell, the Ace Trainer NPCs seem to indicate pokemon trainer is a viable career on some level.

The first time you come to Humilau City, you see a man and a woman playfully chasing each other in circles just outside the Pokemon Center. Now, go back there in the post-game, after you've beaten the Champion, and you'll see the man standing there all alone. He tells you to treasure every moment you have with your loved ones, because you may never get another chance to.

It's probably just me but Hau's smile sometimes felt like a fake smile with Hau trying to run away from problems, like that time where Gladion scolds him for not fighting seriously and not being able to beat his grandpa.

In fact at the end of the game he finally admits he doesn't like losing to you and shows his disappointment instead of smiling like a moron like he did for the whole game. But I'm probably reading too much into that.

This hits a little close to home. I'm a gen wunner getting a bit older, looking to settle down and raise some kids. You worry about this kind of stuff often, like how those little people will interpret every word you say - and often what you don't say - with special significance.

Sometimes that means you can't be happy when you want to be, or else you'll spoil them, but you can't be angry with them either, else they shrink from you in fear. You hide behind a mask of what you think they need, until such a time they realize you're just a fallible human being, like them.

Makes you realize why so many couples break up and go their separate ways. It's a lot of responsibility on top of everything else.
