Or just do what most normal people do and go with the story withouth minding the cutscenes ? The entire point of SM is to tell a story, exploration is mostly for post game where you discover more things. Say that BW2 did it as well, but SM's entire point is to be plot heavy, like lost RPG's put there. This is why when I went into it, I didn't treated it like any prevoius game since I knew it would be different in a big way. Was I dissapointed ? Not even close. Do I agree with the entire cutscene thing ? Maybe yes, mostly no, some dialogue is a bit unnecessary in some parts, but you can't have a perfect game, there's no such thing as a perfect game.

There are few things that can be measured on a game objectively that actually determine if a game is good or not, if any. A games main purpose is being entertaining.
How do you measure that?
You can have the most boring shit on 60fps, 4k and with limitless random generated postgame, and still being boring as fuck.
You can also have a great marketing and sell shit for one of the best selling games of the year.
You can have a glitchfest that fucks the playerbase's experience, or it may end like Dwarf Fortress, Starsiege: Tribes and Demon's Souls where silly shit and exploitable bugs make the game a thrill.

I just feel that the situation over in the UK is that folks can vote but they're not the sort to take up arms against extreme adversity. Not like they can anyway. America can unfuck itself, much like Nintendo and it's 'impossible to sink' nature. The UK is just sort of a floating island with no sense of direction.

People who played red/blue are starting to have kids, and this trend will only increase into the next gen.

The games need to be new-player friendly, this is necessary now more than ever before. Parents will be more inclined to invest time in the franchise if the rules are largely the same as when they played the series as a kid/young teen.

If Gamefreak wanted to shake things up they would have done it in Gen 4/5, now more they will be sticking to a formula which is now old (and successful) enough to become untouchable.

If they want to make difficult, competitive spin-offs that's fine, if they do that they can also make the mainline games even more kid-friendly and everybody wins. But the mainline series is not changing and nobody from the devs to the marketing team to Nintendo itself want the golden goose being ruffled too much.
