That is the sort of thing Pokemon story lines really could use. A proper boss enemy with high health.

Totems were a start on the idea of boss enemys, but the problem is the best way of beating them is to just try and one-shot them, which is very much possible if you play like many do and have Exp Share left on.
(And if you can't quickly KO a Totem, odds are you are low enough level that the Totem and its helper are too strong offensively for you to survive against for long, and that is just frustrating.)

Really disappointing how little you actually see UBs. You only fight the one during the first visit to the Aether Paradise, and only Nihilego appear in the story. The rest are just slapped into a post-credits catching marathon.

The problem with doing it against a person is probably that GF wants to avoid having the player attack another person with a pokemon. These are children's games and as such, resorting to violence instead of beating them in a sort of "sporting match" won't fly, even if the opponent is "evil."

Totems aren't necessarily unique pokemon but they're uncatchable, are encountered alone(initially), and bend the rules in their own favor in a way that the player can't replicate, so they're proper boss fights in all the ways that matter

me too. at one point in the plot, i actually thought that you might have to go to each island and help that island's tapu fight an UB (maybe double battle, maybe not). the beasts would be uncatchable and the legendary would join your party willingly after the battle. false swiping and thunder waving legendaries to throw a dozen ultra balls at them is boring and i was hoping for something different.

I used an underleveled Machoke against her Bewear. That Bewear could have one-shotted me with Hammer Arm (before I got two Bulk Ups in), but instead it went full retard and healed me twice with Pain Split. Thanks I guess
