Honestly, the "champion" of alola still seems super unofficial and dumb. The alolan island challenge is so radically different from earning badges that I find it impossible they'd actually officially accept that in other regions. You don't even battle teams for your trial, just a single stat buffed wild pokemon you're perfectly capable of one shotting with just type advantage.
You also get z-crystals for random fucking shit like finding them just sitting around.
