It's moreso that he got the Key Stone and Mega Stone from Lysandre. He and his leprechaun aren't starting over exactly from scratch, they're just going on a new journey to find Mega Stones and Key Stones.

Essentially, he's trying to get back to where he was through his own efforts, instead of using the gifts he got from Lysandre. And the way he's going about it is to go on the fun, happy journey both he and Manon were deprived of.
