I don't remember exactly what the story was but I thought Kyogre vs Groudon was awesome as a kid
and all I did was grinded Swampert to lvl100 and caught pokemon I thought looked cool.

After you've beaten the story, there are things you can do post game such as the battle tree, where you can battle against trainers from previous gens. It's basically this gens battle facility equivalent of the battle frontier in Emerald if you remember that. Aside from that there's not much else post game outside of Online battles etc
