Is that not how you're supposed to say Beheeyem?
>>30273279
I thought it was like
B.E.M

>>30273000
I pronounced Sceptile as Skeptile for years and years. How was I supposed to know the scientific name for ferns?
>>30273000
Not strictly when I was a kid, but some of these still fuck me up:
Forest-ress
Ar-see-us
Ra-kwas-a
Skeptile
Dee-ancie
Ill-oom-eyes
Mill-aught-ick
Reggie-ice
Deox-ease
Miss-majius
Hippo-pote-us
Dray-peon
Lie-ron
Ill-umm-eyes (Ill-oom-ease-ayy is still hard for me)
Vennersaur
Rattut-AH
Nidderan
Sanna-fore-ah
Pickachu
I think I pronounced Groudon as "Grew-don", Kyogre as "Kai-oh-gree", Rayquaza as "Ray-kwa-za", and Giratina as "Jai-ruh-tee-na". I really don't know how I could screw up that last one since I was a teenager by the time Gen IV came out in English.
Anyone else think it was
>Crucial hit
instead of
>Critical Hit
>>30274250
I mean, in the Pokerap they pronounce Groudon and Kyogre like that, so it's easy to understand the mix up.
>>30274288
Nigga could you not read?
>>30273915
>Ar-see-us
But that's right
>>30274396
Not according to the stupid English movie about him

>>30274420
I mean at some point you've got to notice something like this..
How long did you think that?
>>30274417
The English narrator said that they went with "Ar-key-us" during the English reveal because TPCi was worried about the regular pronunciation sounding like "arse". The pronunciation of アルセウス (Arceus; aruseusu) has an S sound, not a K sound. This can be seen in Pokémon Battle Revolution where the name is pronounced "Ar-seh-us" by the announcer.
I still pronounce it with the S sound because it's not like I watch the English dub of the anime or interact with anyone who does, and my friends are the same. To be totally fair though, the K sound might be the one people should go with if the name is really based on Archeus.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archeus
It wouldn't be the first time the Japanese pronunciation doesn't match the official trademarked name spelling. Zorua is called Zorua in both English and Japanese, but it's written as ゾロア (Zoroa) in Katakana. Genesect is the same trademark in both English and Japanese, but it's written as ゲノセクト (Genosekuto) in Katakana, with a hard G and an o in place of the second e. For a while, people thought its name was Genosect, a combination of "genocide" and "insect", but the official romanized trademark popped up and it was "Genesect". It's not exactly wrong to call it "Geh-no-sekt" since that's basically how it's pronounced in Japanese, but judging by the official romanization, it should be pronounced with a soft G, like "Jeh-neh-sekt".
>>30273915
>Illumise is on the list twice pronounced 2 different ways
Dialga.
But fuck calling it Dee-Al-Ga. It should be Dial-Ga. You don't pronounce Dial as Dee-Al or diamond as Dee-A-Mond.
>>30274849
Dial-ga and Pal-key-a are the goat pronunciations
>>30274288
My little sister still says shit like this. She also calls awakening "a-whack-ening"and umbreon "um-bore-eon"
>>30274970
The hell does "goat" mean to you people?
>>30274767
That's how fucking much it messes with me.
>>30275079
Game of all time pronunciations, obviously.

Who??
I used to pronounce Banette as 'bannit.' Took me years to realize that it's actually 'bay net' as in bane marionette.
I pronounce Milotic as 'mealo tick.'
I say 'misdree vuss' instead of 'miss dreevus' for Misdreavus.
Giratina is 'jirra teena.'
>>30273000
I still mispronounce a ton of them.
>I never talk about pokemon with people in real life so I never know how to pronounce them
My cousin however used to call Hoothoot "Who-thoot"
i only just realized ratata is not rat-tuh-taa-tuh.
>>30273000
Not a native english speaker, I called Meowth "Meh-ow-th"
>>30273000
I pronounce Giratina as Juh-rat-tuh-nuh, because my brain wants it to rhyme with "platina," (from platinum) on which Giratina's name is partially based.
Also, Arceus as "Ar-say-oos," but that's just me being goofy.
on the topic, how do you even pronounce arceus
arkey-us?
cause the katakana has the C as a strong S (a ru se u su)
>>30277014
>but that's just me being goofy.
I know your pain.
I default to saying Ar-see-us, even though I know it's wrong. It's just easier to say.
It's the same thing with names like Silvally and Ilumise.
I called Ho-oh "who" for the longest time
Always used to pronounce this nigga as
Tort-er-anna
instead of Tor-tair-a
>grew-don
>silvalilly
>suck-scene
>>30277111
The correct, "proper" way to say it is 'Ar KAY uss'
The name comes from Arch, as in archangel, archdeity, etc. and Deus, which is Latin for god.
> Name origin
Arceus may be a combination of arch- (most extreme, highest), archon (a Greek word that means "ruler" or "lord"), arcanus (Latin for secret, mystery), archaic (ancient), αρχή arkhē (Greek for beginning), or archetypus (Latin for original), and deus (Latin for god). It may also derive from aureus (golden, in reference to its hooves and wheel), arc (round or ring), arcessere (Latin for to summon), or Archeus (an aspect of the astral plane).
None of these have a soft C sound.
The Arseeus pronunciation was a translation mistake, and something to do with the transliteration of the Japanese name, I think. "Aruseusu" or something.

Also, all my friends call rayquaza "ruh-quay-zah" instead of the proper "ray-quah-zah" and it makes me fucking pissed because I hate when people misspell or mispronounce things.

I was an idiot and didn't notice the central motif for registration

>>30274995
That's because umbreon is boring.
War-turtle instead of war-tortle
Used to call suicune Swee-coon but all my friends called it soo-e-coon
Calling ho-oh hoe-hoe
Deducieye -> Decidueye
Suicune as Soo-Shun was the only one I remember getting wrong.
I did pronounce Evolution as Evolve-shun though.

Car-meleon
Quack-zire
Raw-quaw-zah
Mol-trees (Before I knew spanish numbers)

>Used to call suicune Swee-coon but all my friends called it soo-e-coon
You're both right. Swee-coon is the English pronunciation and soo-e-coon is the Japanese pronunciation.
