OP what is it so hard to understand that dark type is not called the edge type, it's evil type. Edge dog isn't evil, doesn't fight dirty and not all rock types have to be large, slow, and bulky. Edge dog has spikey rocks scattered around its body, but if the rocks were over done the sly, fight club addicted wolf theme would be lost. Remember edge dog lures opponents in by looking small and unintimidating. Large spikey rocks would contradict with its fighting style.

It feels as though GF planned to make moondog Rock/Fighting, but they were afraid that giving Moondog an unique typing would have it overshadow Sundog for the wrong reasons, so they made Moondog pure rock. It would explain why they were trying to build Counter as Moondog's signature move, even though it's not fighting type.
