But I'd always take anything said here with a grain of salt. Many people will praise XY to the skies just because of Serena, who had a crush on Ash. This thread has a lot of people who spend all day talking about Ash x Serena, so they're very invested.

You certainly wouldn't regret watching XY at all, like I said it's great, but if your time is very limited it'll take you a while to get through it obviously.

For what it's worth I might even find myself enjoying SM a bit more than XY.

Some of the positives would include
>three fantastic girls
>awesome region, literally Hawaii
>very comfy, many slice of life elements
>completely fresh formula after decades of getting the same thing over and over and over

Negatives would be Ash looking weird (but not as bad as initial posters made it seem), Jessie from TR being absolutely horrible and the existence of Sophocles and Samson Oak who are just terrible.

There are a lot of subs on youtube. At least 2 or 3 different google translate based ones. Then there are those kukui ones which are probably somewhere inbetween that and PM and PM which are the best for sure, but also the slowest to come out.
I don't care which ones you watch. If your jap is good enough as you said, why not just watch the raws? They're out a few hours after the episodes aired and you can understand it all just fine, it's just Pokémon man.

If you still don't understand something just look up that part in a sub later on or ask.

The typesetting is basic, but fine.
People are spazzing out because some lines are adapted in translation to make better sense in English, which makes them pretty much the same as any other sub group. Some people are freaking out and avoiding them even though the other sub group won't have subs out for days.
There was one typo in the episode 3 and 4 subs. Other than that, they're good.
Kukui subs are good enough and come out fast. You're not going to miss out on anything by using them.

Those action scenes were so short so not really worth counting them. I was thinking more about fully fleshed out battles, like the Gyms and rival battles used to provide. All SM is going to deliver on that front is a few Kahuna battles, sadly. Totem Pokemon battles won't really work well in the anime as they don't have any trainers, I'm doubting they will be included at all.
