I was originally going to go for a team that had Celesteela, Xurkitree, and Mudsdale, but I couldn't find an Adamant natured Mudsdale and my breeding efforts to get it failed.

I've had decent success with Expert Belt Golisopod (lead), LO 4 attack Garchomp, and special Automize Celesteela.

I have Moon, sadly, and very few of my friends have Sun. It'd be hard to find someone willing to give up a Kartana.

You're in luck anon, I just so happen to have a spare Jolly Kartana with HP/ATK/SPE IVs, everything else is kinda booty though.

If you don't have anything decent to trade, Phermosa might also be good candidate too. Get that bitch an attack boosting nature and fuck everything up.

I haven't played Battle Tree yet, but my go to technique for the previous equivalents has normally been Trick Room set ups, the AI seems to struggle with it for some reason.

With the Alola dex being so slow in general it may be less viable though.

Ash-Greninja + Lucario + Talonflame was my XYORAS team. Still does well.

Sun has 4 kartana to catch, so I'm sure people will be willing to spare them.

I caught 2 jolly, 2 adamant to barter with my friends with moon for the Moon exclusive UBs.

Water Shuriken is base 30 on every hit. That's a 60base priority move at the very least.

It also has a 66% chance to do 3 hits. Water Shuriken is ridiculous and it's helped me a good a number of times in my run.

No, it's not doubles, just a 1.5x boost.

That's already pretty good. it'd make it a base 45 priority move at the very least, and base 100+ at it's best.

My first thought is that Adaptability Breakneck blitz seems good, but slow with underwhelming defences is kinda definitive...

Maybe try something that can baton pass some speed to it, or maybe set up aurora veil with ninetales.

Possibly something like speed boost scolipede into a gumshoos nuke, You could even go Thrash, just to make sure you are really swinging.

Anon, I have no idea what you just said, unfortunately. I sound like an utter retard for that. In regards to all this, what would a recommended moveset look like for a Gumshoos if applied to this situation?

If I were to make a team that could use Gumshoos, I'd have a few pokemon that could do some stuff to set up for it.

For Gumshoos, I'd have it hold Normalium Z, then have thrash, because with the ability, the Zmove and Thrash would do tons of damage, the rest is whatever coverage moves you want (earthquake, payback, revenge). I'd put EVs in HP & attack, probably with an adamant nature.

Considering Gumshoos' speed being nearly unusable to outspeed anything, I feel setup with defences from aurora veil would be better. Aurora veil doubles defence and special defence, but can only be used in the hail, which Ninetales does really well, setting hail with its hidden ability, and then having really fast speed to set up aurora veil well.

Another option to pokemon with low speed like gumshoos is to set up trick room, which reverses speed, allowing gumshoos to attack first, which is actually kinda scary, when you consider an adaptability boosted Zmove. There are a lot of pokemon that use trick room well, that is definitely worth looking into if you are serious about gumshoos.

On second thought, I probably wouldn't use baton pass to give a speed boost to gumshoos, as gumshoos is too slow, I'd focus more on either setting up aurora veil or trick room, both of which are definitely viable.

Those are the two sets I'd run, as Ninetales is good on its own, without having to be used only for gumshoos. The rest is just whatever you want to run.

Well, I own Moon, but I'm sure some anon out here would be okay with giving me an alolan Vulpix. This sounds like it'd be really fun to set up, actually.

The reason I'm kind of looking at using Gumshoos is because of themed team stuff, and I think that everything you've suggested sounds really viable. I really appreciate you breaking it all down for me, anon. I'm sorry for being inexperienced with team-building!

I'm not really sure what sort of thinking went into the team building for past characters. Why does Wally only get 4 pokemon, Cynthia gets 5, and yet Blue has 9?

I got a 15 streak with unoptimised mons from my ingame team, I can't imagine you need to think too hard about it.
