Can someone redpill me on competitive VGC?
Always been a casual player, don't know half of the types and weaknesses chart.
Where are the best places to read/watch/learn the basics - intermediates of VGC play?
Why is protect so common in VGC? What about switch?

Just lurk in the VGC threads, there's one open right now. Nobody wants to spoonfeed you.

The reason why it's so common in VGC is because Protect is the best move in doubles. It lets you block damage, stay safe while your partner sets up or deals with a threat, scout your opponent moves, and stall out turns of attacks such as Trick Room or Tailwind.
>he doesn't watch the japanese players on niconico and youtube
