If there aren't hints as to what you need to do to evolve them or the requirements aren't reasonable then it just becomes tedious, an idea that sounds good on paper but quickly becomes irritating. For instance, there's literally zero (0) reason for most of the trade evolutions other than because "trading is a thing, wouldn't it be a cool story/memory if somebody got an evolution immediately afterwards?" Freaking out with your friends as a kid over that new Kadabra evolving into Alakazam is fun the first time but awful any other time you want a trade evolution since you have to do 1 of 3 things

>have friends that play pokemon
>pray other people aren't stupid (it has shit IVs/nature/ability or impossible trade requests), greedy (wants Lv100 rare/legendary/event only mons) or assholes (deliberately has shit IVs/nature/ability or giving it an Everstone)
The amount of times I saw a Haunter up for trade with the wanted mon being a Lv11-20 Machoke is too fucking high.
