It didn't actually sell that many, it *shipped* 10 million copies. Admittedly, that's the biggest first shipment for a Pokemon game in the last few generations, but it doesn't necessarily guarantee all of those games are going to sell.

Partially due to the fact that since Pt, people have been "wising up" and just waiting for the third version, which is kinda dumb when BW2 wasn't really a third version and XY just plain didn't have a Z.

I enjoyed the games a lot, so it'd be nice if we had a generation whose mainline games actually outsold the previous games. IIRC, every new generation's main games have been the worst selling except for Diamond and Pearl.

Because they don't have people double dipping and getting both versions because there's only one version, and they often come out after a better console has come out, Crystal came out after the GBA, Emerald came out after the DS, B2W2 came out after the 3DS, etc. The only exceptions are Platinum and technically Yellow, but Yellow was GBC enhanced outside of Japan so not really I guess.

Honestly, I thought X/Y had a better setup and was better as a Pokemon game, but S/M is miles better as an RPG.
I like Pokemon in general and will always find enjoyment in a Pokemon game, but it's been ages since I found myself having fun in a Pokemon game the way I am now. I realize most of the new mons aren't too competitively viable, and that the game doesn't give you the same tools (Super training, hordes, breeding items, etc) that X/Y supplied you with, but I generally use Showdown for competitive shit, and this is by far the most fun I've had with the game itself in a long time. I heard that the new AI is tough, so I gave myself a full, diverse team at decent levels and Hala still nearly beat me. I'm only on the second island right now, though, so my opinion might be worthless.
