Overall thoughts about this whole island challenge system? A lot better than I thought it'd be. Some of the totem Pokemon were actually hard. Hard to say if it's better than gyms or not, some gyms are awesome, some are completely forgettable and boring.

It was great, we need more captains though. Not necessarily for story purpose, but just have some duded wandering around with post-game flying/psychic/ice/etc teams.

Totem Lurantis was my favorite Totem mon because of the sheer anal rape it provided.

Trials were the best thing about SM and I really hope they stay.

Could be a breath of fresh air from the standard 'here's a gym, beat the trainers then beat the leader' formula, but needs refinement. More trials, more varied challenges, pick up the ball they dropped with Fairy and Dragon, etc.

It was fun, more than I thought it would be, I like it more than gyms

I haven't gotten far enough as I'm taking my time but I'm in love with the Fairy trial person, can't wait to see her in game..

>Interesting idea, but never really develops into anything special. Most challenges just boil down to fighting a few random battles in succession, followed by a Totem fight. Vastly inferior to gyms, and by the end of the game you're literally just handed Z-Crystals.

Fire, it really blindsided me with how funny it was. The ghost trial did have a cooler gimmick, though.

Mimikyu's design and theme are so strong, and turning around to see it staring at you was fucking gold.
Bonus points to Lurantis for nearly fucking my whole team up.

I kind of wish they were more substantial, but they were all fun little things that I overall really enjoyed. Spacing out important fights over the course of the game instead of all at once with gyms helped the pacing a lot. Overall, I'd love to see a more refined version in later games.

Enjoyed it a lot but I half expected a trial for every type and was disappointed to find that I got a few Z-Crystals free and some not at all (yet) because it would have been fun to do more gimmicky shit for crystals that make an 11 year old dance adorably
