Girl is canon for moon for sure. Not only is Lingala female according to its pokedex entry, but the moon has been associated with women for hundreds of years.

And I'd say the canon starter for either boy or girl is Rowlett, because the champ uses the starter strong against yours, and I really can't see him using anything other than Inciniroar

lore wise lunala is female, it says so in the story, all of its version exclusive ultra beasts are also female. Moon is female.

The correct starter would be what forces Kukui to have his canon starter, since he's the only NPC who remains post-game that has a pokemon dependent on what you chose.

The S/M Demo you play as the boy called "Sun", he is the canon hero for the generation as a whole while Moon would probably be the girl and is the Protagonist of "Moon".
