Alright, I just started the Ditto giveaway bot again!

Deposit a Ledyba asking for a lvl 91+ or "Any level" ditto to receive a free shiny ditto with 6IV and Destiny Knot.

If you want a more specific ditto you can get that by renaming your Ledyba, just follow these simple rules:

For a Adamat-nature Ditto, call your Ledyba "Adamant", for a Careful-nature call it "Careful" (works for all natures)

For a HP Fire Ditto call your Ledyba "HPFire", for HP Dragon call it "HPDragon" (also works for all HP, no spaces and make sure you write it correct)

Please make sure you write it correctly, no spaces in the name and correct capitalization is important here.

All standard or HP Dittos come with adamant nature.

The specific Ditto request method isn't fully tested yet, so feel free to try it out and tell me if it doesn't work.

Probably a 31/0/31/0/31/0 spread with relaxed. the 0s are for pretty much the MOST situational reasons, and they aren't really that important. minimum speed so incase you ever end up against another ditto, you struggle last winning you the fight. 0 attack so less damage from confusion and payback for if and ONLY if your imposter failed for whatever reason. 0 sp atk for power split incase your imposter failed. 248 evs in hp for 299 hp as opposed to 300 for more switch ins on rocks, def nature and max def for incase a ditto struggle fight or another reason your imposter fails. That would probably be the 'perfect' competitive ditto.

A suggestion I have is that maybe rethink the idea that it has to be a "common" pokemon to be a giveaway. Why not something like a Golduck- chances are no matter how "common" the pokemon is, people are still going to have to catch one before sending it to the GTS, so instead of common think "not on the GTS but has a reasonably high encounter rate in the wild in a specific area"

How much of an issue is it to cycle through different pokemon? Another solution to reduce the load would be to let people randomly decide which pokemon they want to upload between 4-5 of the ones that fulfill the requirements. Since the issue is that you're basically always going from the back of the line, it might just be easier to increase the number of lines.

Haven't found it yet, I guess the picture is somewhat unique, combined with the name... need to do more research on that. Usually the whole trainer id is encrypted in the pokemon and sadly the GTS doesn't give me the whole information about that before the trade(wanted to make a bot that checks the deposited pokemons tid/sid and sends a pokemon with sid/tid as name as a result at first)

IVs serve no purpose. They are not like EVs, where you have opportunity cost for selecting EVs and customizing a pokemon to how you plan to use it. IVs are simply "you want these ones at 31, you can ignore this one, or you want this IV at 1 for trick room".

They are the most pointless feature in these games and only exist to make 99% of the pokemon you own look flawed.

It's not temporary at all. The thing is, if you use bottle caps on a Pokemon and breed said Pokemon, it will only pass down its old IVs. For instance, let's say that before using the cap you had 18 IVs. After you use it, it will max out. However, the previous IV is still taken into account when it comes to Hidden Power and breeding.

genwunner, played competitively since gen 4, but i'm gonna give some deviled advocates on this topic

IVs are more of a necessary evil to 'reward' breeding and hunting from a non-competitive standpoint: to individualize your efforts, to really give a 'signature' to -your- specific pokemon and the various hurdles and macguffins you've conquered to get them to that point.

i've always respected it as a feature, since it gives a form of objective 'quality' to the various smogonbirds and shitmons people enjoy collecting. it got real ugly when you needed a 'perfect IV' legendary, but that's the only case where it's been a true hindrance for me in the past.

competitively speaking, IVs are a hideous concept that invoke way too much grind for players who want to have a wide roster of things they can build a team from.

my general routing on this type of thing is to fully breed a near-perfect team or two, dick about with it for awhile and then adopt some method of injecting/hackmons to avoid the ungodly grind of filling a box or two with usable, competitive staples


i don't think IVs are a terrible concept, i really appreciate how they've become much more accessibly 'fixed' in SUMO, but in the past they've always been a benchmark of 'how tough are ya' when it comes to your input of effort toward competitive play.

I can see both sides of the argument, but in the end I say keep them because it separates casuals who can't understand it. You spent time on a pokemon you like? Here's your reward, you get a slightly better pokemon. That one point of speed above your opponent is really the biggest game changer of all. Speed is imho the most impacting of all IVs, some need it at 0 and most need full investment.

It's not that hard to understand why they have SOME kind of nature/nurture control and why it takes a bit of effort. Idk I don't see a huge issue with that, and it's not exactly hard with all the 6iv dittos, destiny knot and bottle caps. For people who want to be "legit" and speed up the process there are now options, ask for someone to trade over a cap. Not that hard.

What I hate the most are tutors. Give us a fucking TM holy shit.

Casuals already ignore shit, like EVs and decent move sets.

IVs are put behind retarded barriers of vagueness and obscurity that STILL requires a ridiculous effort to breach.

What it boils down to is that as a feature, with so much left outside of direct player control and left to the odds, IVs add nothing to player decisions.

With EVs, every point is an opportunity cost. With move sets, every move selected comes with an opportunity cost. Every point of EVs in one stat means that a different stat will not be getting that EV point. Every move selected to one of the four slots means that a different move is not going to be available for use.

With IVs there is no opportunity cost. Selecting one stat to have a 31 IV means nothing to any of the other stats. So it just becomes that every stat should have that 31 IV value, and if you don't have a 31 IV value for that stat, then your pokemon is set at a lower bar from the outset.

It's a trash mechanic.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm not getting it at all.

Its just a remotecontrolled 3ds, it has to sit through the whole trading animation etc, so it isn't faster than a human that would do it manually (but it also isn't much slower). The big advantage is that I can do other stuff while it trades around all day.

As I said a few times, the bot only trades the first person in the list, so if your request hasn't been fulfilled within 3 minutes you can just redeposit and try again. There's currently way more ppl requesting than the bot (or a human) could handle alone, that's why the backlog keeps growing. I wonder how bad the backlog is gonna be when I check tomorrow after a few hours of doing no trades on the bot (I'm scared)
