Or if I want to associate Pokemon with other things I'd go with weapons or classes. I named a Haxorus after one of the strongest axes in a Fire Emblem game, Basilikos. A powerful Fire Emblem class that uses swords is called a Trueblade, so I named a Kartana after that given that it has a sword and samurai theme.

Wimpod - Ironsides (named after "Old Ironsides", A.K.A. the USS Constitution, a naval frigate; also contains a lot of the same letters as "isopod" so it pleased my aesthetic sense)
Ribombee - Patootie ("cutie patootie")
Lycanroc Midday - Duster (a character from Mother 3, plus dust goes along with the rock type)
Crabrawler - Fisticuffs (self-explanatory)
Mudbray - Buckaroo (an old word for cowboy, fitting for where you catch it, + donkeys and horses buck)
Salandit - Ahi (Hawaiian word for "fire")
Magnemite - Screwball (self-explanatory)
A-Meowth - Meowzie (after the girl Meowth that Team Rocket's Meowth fell in love with in its backstory)

I can't help but name my Pokemon after fictional characters/concepts and sometimes historical figures. It feels silly sometimes, but it's fun and helps me get attached to the Pokemon faster. As soon as I saw Lycanroc Midnight I knew that I had to have one and that its name would be Fenrich.

My favorite that I came up with was Kongming for Oranguru. Fan weapon/intelligence + the added bonus of a monkey named Kong.

I named my Wishiwashi "Fish Strong" which is based off of how the Japanese spelling for Kanji is a combination of Fish and Weak, however, Sardines are fantastic and Wishiwashi is a monster ingame so "Fish Strong" is a much better alternative.
