I dunno I never felt compelled to download and listen to pokemon music till gen 6. The technological advancement is a factor since music will just be higher fidelity so maybe it's a bias.

Shit taste, Gen 6 may be disappointing, but it still did pretty damn well music-wise.

Gen 7 has the best legendary themes so far in my opinion, the box legendary theme and tapu theme gave me straight up goosebumps on first listen. Havent really experienced that since Giratina-O and the remixed Kyogre/Groudon theme.
I also think Guzma has the best evil team boss theme
