Not him, but I agree. Gen 1 and 2 felt a lot more down to earth, before things started getting too crazy. Pokemon were animals and you were jus there to explore the world. Helps that they took place in Japan so the devs knew what sort of feeling they wanted to convey.

SM's direction feels like they finally figured out what they want to do though

Personally. I like how the colours were more pastel, but that's about it.

I think art style hit its peak around DPPt/BW, with the right amount of colour an detail. But that's just me.

I'm not a fan of the artstyle (not Pokémon design) now.

They never should have left watercolour. A lot of new pokemon designs only seem shit because of shitty art.

Also, too many colours. My main complaint for why new designs are 'shit' they aren't really but some of them annoy me is because off too many contrasting colours. If you reduce the colours of most pokemon to about 2-4 coulors they'd look far nice. Game boy colour could only handle 4 colours in each pokemon's sprite which is why they look the way they do in game, and it's pretty nice to see.
