IIRC its up - left - up - left -right - up. What I know for sure is once you get to the area with the rough terrain, you go left, then head back to where you came from and you'll end up in a different area, although its a bit tricky since it also has rough terrain in the middle in the same sort of configuration. Once you're there, just go up and you'll be at the ruins.
