Because they're not rivals. Calem/Serena is your rival. They're friends the game tries to pass off as your rival just because they follow you around and occasionally battle you.

Calem or Serena are the true serious rivals, the rest are buddies. Hau is a buddy, I didn't feel like gen 7 had a true rival.
