It's pretty much a meme on Something Awful that every webcomic works better if you cut off the last panel, and it seems to be true 99% of the time.
Last panel should be the punchline, not a character reacting to the punchline.

As a kid me and my friend Alex used to always get the opposite versions and call our rivals each other's names.

We sort of fell out of friendship around after the gen 4 but I still always call my rival Alex.

I've been going with the canon names since Platinum
