I use both. Golisopod is good for quick reaction while Araquanid is better for longhauling against grass, fire, ground, psychic, dark, and rock. cover the rest of the types with Decidueye and Charjabug (not to poni island yet, dont have much playing time.)

I love how efficiently Golisopod can wreck something that doesn't resist it. A First Impression followed by a Sucker Punch can be a brutal way to start a match. Unfortunately, it's really the only strategy it has.

I hate that it evolves so late, but I'm still impressed by how much the little guy has been pulling his weight on my team.

I might just not evolve him. He's so damn cute. Contender for my favorite 7th gen Pokemon, that's for sure.

Seconding these. I also use both and find Goli to be better for Bug STAB and quickshotting/revenge killing and Ara better for Water STAB and stalling resisted types.

GF did a good job this gen, with them plus Vikavolt I've never used so many Bug-types before, even if it means Rock-types always royally fuck me over.

Both are good for different reasons. Goli can nail weakened foes with its strong priority moves, as well as offer some support roles as a spiker/taunter. His ability works well with his play style, letting him get a hit in before slowly pivoting to an ally. Having switch advantage is a huge boon.
Araquanid is a straightforward, solid tank. Thanks to his ability, he can just spam Liquidation and blow chunks out of most opposition, and despite his low HP, can tank a surprising number of hits, especially with Leech Life and leftovers.

If you want to run Golisopod you absolutely need a terrain setter to get rid of any Psychic terrain for it. One of the most priority-dependent Pokemon to ever exist.

I've found Araquanid to be a useful hybrid, able to run status/stall + trapping in its remaining 3 moveslots when not blasting things with enormous water power. I feel like non-Water direct attacks aren't getting my money's worth from the Pokemon and just serve to degrade its performance relative to competing water-type musclemons. It's got the stats to expand its role like that without losing power.
