It's Pokemon. In Japan. This shouldn't surprise anyone.

/v/ unirnoncally thought Yokai Watch has killed Pokemon in Japan, so it would surprise them
No need to buy the game then :>

Yo-kai Watch 3, which released in July 2016, has sold 1.29 million lifetime in Japan as of November, according to Famitsu.
Meaning Pokémon Sun/Moon, in its first week alone, has sold more in Japan than YW3 will in that country in all of 2016.
Couple YW3 having sold like half as well as YW2 with the fact that the franchise's toy sales are in freefall (see pic. related, and compare YW's 2015 numbers with its 2017 forecast) and I think it's an old meme in Japan.

Which is why I'm laughing.
/v/ has a few unironical YW shills that will defend the series at every turn. but will get destroyed by ever Poekmon entry: even in Japan
