How do you guys chain Ditto anyway? I tried and ended up spending one too many potions and revive because they transform into my own mons and do too much damage

Have it transform into a Pokemon that only knows Recycle (Trubbish) and switch in a Pokemon holding a Leppa berry and swap the berry onto the Ditto. I am still not sure what Pokemon to use for that though.
