I don't remember much I disliked about this game. The event only pokemon were pretty shitty because there was no easy way to get them if you missed the event without cheating.

It came out at a time where the original players were at the age where playing pokemon was seen as "uncool": deserters who came back in a later gen are the main reason this is one of the most demonized generations, even though there's nothing too good or too bad nor that makes it special compared to the others.

Aside from that I'd say the only objective flaws were the impossibility to transfer old pokemons (sadly, a necessary evil to fix the code), the lack of day/night cycle (that was just lazy) and the horrible variety of pokemon in the water routes.
Anyone who thinks the OST was bad is crazy as fuck.

Not all pokemon needs to have good special and physical STABs, this not only killed monotypes such as pure psychic, but made all types feels the same, with no weakness.

Grass types used to have good support moves but poor offensive, so here, have Energy Balls, Power Whips and Seed Bombs

Poison types used to be great defensively but lacked offensive moves, so here, have a special Sludge Bomb because fuck balance right?

Dragon types had the highest attack of the game but their STAB was special, FUCKING OUTRAGE BECAUSE DOUBLE EDGES OFF 130+ ATTACK WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH

This shit ruined the series, all types feels the same now with a little gimmick or two. If your "bro" was useless before, it sure is now that it can't eat Flare Blitzes and High Jump Kicks at the same time.

Now GF is trying to fix their mess by giving Will o Wisp to everyone and making fairy types, but guess what? Too fucking late.

while something needed to be done about HMs, "Poke-Ride" was probably the most creatively-bankrupt way to handle them.

now instead of going on an adventure with your own pokemon, you're just guided through a sanitized theme park with somebody else's to deal with extremely minor field obstacles.

a better solution would have been to make HM moves forgettable like any other attack, but you always keep the overworld functionality if you ever knew the move. and that's not the only "better" solution they could have come up with, just one off the top of my head. none of those solutions were going to be "get free pokemon that are yours but not really yours that you pull out of your ass to bypass obstacles"

It sadly uses Gen. 1 and Gen. 2's damage category thus making Pokemon like Crawdaunt less effective who have stabs that are special but have a poor special attack stat and vice versa. Sneasel is another good example of this.
