I'm talking when the game was just released in japan and nobody used it. It's typing was a red flag for many since it was 4x weak to ice, and every water pokemon knew ice beam. We all thought a Starmie would easily kill it due to its better speed

I didn't play competitively at the time but I remember seeing everyone butthurt and hating on shoddy because the genIV meta was supposedly hyper offensive.

In fact many, specially spanish people for some reason kept using NetBattle for a good while.

I still prefer hyper offense to stall. At the very least at least gen 4s meta wasnt as bad as gen 5s.
