Too early to tell, but it seems like fears were overblown. There are some scenes of amazing animation, and he's used a Z-move by episode 2.

He never once used Mega Evolution through all of XY.

I wasn't expecting much but,

- the animation is pretty good, and apart from Ash, who still looks kinda weird to me, the character designs are great
- the whole school thing seems to be only one of the aspects of the plotline, as it seems like Ash is taking the island challenge too
- the characters sound interesting
- Ash looks competent so far
- the comedy bits are not overblown and quite suitable
- the girls are very cute

PM has already subbed episode 1, watch it, it's nice

Based on the first two episodes, I'd say that it exceeded my expectations. Not gonna raise it any higher, though.

The animation was actually good. Took some getting used to at first, but overall, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be.

And to be honest, there were scenes that made me laugh.

I don't know if it's just me, but there were moments when there's dead air-- everyone's silent and I find it hilarious.

The English dub sucks. Glad subs were uploaded early.

- School premise seems entertaining and will bypass the monotonous of past series' pokemon of the week episodes

There is more emphasis on pokemon which makes it better than 99% of all pokemon episodes already. Like you actually see pokemon everywhere and you realize all previous seasons just had garbage animation of 3 kids walking in profile on a road next a forest for 100% with occasionally a few seconds of actual pokemon screen time aside from a few decent battles.

Just watch it if you don't understand what I mean. The show just feels more alive.

The humor was pretty fuckin bad. And the dub was expectedly terrible.

We are 2 episodes in, there's no way to predict or judge the anime based on that. The anime is supposed to have god knows how many episodes, the ones released are just set ups, every start of pokémon season is the same.

No one except for >>30087343 mentions anything about the Pokemon themselves.
Frankly, I only care about the Pokemon. How much screentime they get, how they battle and how are they portrayed. Most of the Pokemon in every past seasons have been pretty much the same. They act friendly, and struggling with something, Ash helps them and everyone is happy.

The reason I liked DP was because the battles were great in that. They used special abilities, gimmicky moves and it actually came down to strategy.

I'll give it a try. Doesn't seem like it's anything special from reading all the posts. I'll keep my expectations low.

I liked the characterisation they had for Kokeko-kun

Just saw the first episode while studying for mid terms. I liked it.

Ash's redesign will take some getting used to because it looks like they "downgraded" him, but I think the new style fits the goofy anime vibe they are going for. Reminds me a lot of the medabots anime which I really liked.

Well, we haven't had many battles so far, but it already shows some creativity (Turtunator letting Zubats bite its shell so he can blast them off), Z-moves look cool as fuck, and the animation is fucking great. This has potential to be the best pokemon series in terms of battles.
Give it a shot. I dropped XY very early on and I enjoy SM much more. It's chill and comfy. Something that makes you feel good after watching
