I used to never nickname my Pokemon until now. It's pretty fun coming up with names for them, and it does make them feel more like close pets.

I tried going for names that matched their characteristics. Ralphie means wolf, Ula means Sea Jewel, and so forth. I named my Persian after Donatella Versace because I thought it was funny.

Don't worry about it. I never really did any grinding myself and by the time I was at the elite four their mons were within 1 to 2 levels of mine. The difficulty curve in these games is actually pretty good. You'll overlevel most things in the beginning but once you get to about the 4th island they'll be right up on your level.

Trying to catch a timid Xurkitree atm for my post game team.

I noticed soft resetting from normal encounters is actually 6-8 seconds faster than escaping in the case of Ultra Beasts since you can distinguish if it's a regular Pokemon immediately from the music.

Nah, he doesn't get a decent attacking move until Level 14 (Shadow Sneak), so you should be okay. Only problem is first island bosses are Normal/Fighting based, so that might make you rape them (but also necessitates you getting another 'mon for Illima 'cuz Mimi won't have his fairy moves yet and Ghost can't hit Normal).

This is mine right after beating Lusamine, been playing with EXP Share OFF.

Possibly my favorite Pokemon game so far, at least as far as the singleplayer goes. Surprisingly hard, enemies have much better movesets than gen6 to say the least, and I feel like I need to predict them almost like I would a human player.

OP here. Just left diglett cave and on my way to battle Olivia. I gotta say those trials were fun and actually challenging. I enjoyed them. I decided to bring back Gumshoe.

For those of you who are arriving to Akala island, I definitely recommend that you do the in-game trade at the Pokemon center at route 5. There's a guy who will give you an adamant Bounsweet for a lilipup.

I want to put Stufful on my team, and I'm thinking about replacing either Rockruff or Mudbray but just don't know who. Rockruff is cute and I love its daytime form, but Mudbray tanks shit like it's nothing. I'm just not sure what to do.

Just beat YA BOI in the first city after catching all the UBs plus Necrozma. Given the fact that I struggled in that fight, I'm starting to realize how crappy my team composition is. It has no real way of dealing with water types, fighting types, and has only one way of dealing with stuff like dragons and darks. And it's all physical attackers

But I guess since I enjoy using it that's all that matters, right?

Komala and Crabominable aren't that great, with Komala being the weak link. Crabominable surprises me every now and again though, so I don't hate it

Lycanroc is fairly reliable when it hits its moves

Mudsdale is my MVP despite not having stamina. Alolan Muk is great, and Decidueye is a lot better than I expected, with Spirit Shackle getting a lot of kills

Just defeated Hapu and holy shit was that intense. The ONLY reason I didn't lose (except in my dignity) was because I decided to (for the first time EVER since I've owned a Pokemon game) item-fag in order to move on with the story. That Mudsdale was an absolute nightmare to fight against, especially because my team composition was horribly suited to match up against Stamina (AND super underleveled).

Hau's Raichu seems to give everyone problems. You're at a nice level for Ula Ula, since it's a fairly long arc. By the time you're done there you should be around an average of level 38-40, maybe a bit higher. Ula Ula is the island you get Mimikyu in, so I'd suggest making that your final mon. It's extremely useful.
