Make it give a debuff to speed or special attack.
Similar to how burn debuffs physical moves by 30% iirc

Also, more unique type combos like Salazzle and Dragalge.

Poison is great.
Its a weird type, but a pretty good defensive type. Honestly, with the fairys about now, i think poison is pretty solid.

Poison doesnt get much love from GF it feels like. Like they make a bunch of poisons, but never let them really shine on their own charms. They give us plenty of forgettable poison bugs/grass/dark/water, but the last one that really had appeal was Toxicroak

Poison has never been garbage, its always been a wonderfully defensive type.

Wheezing was a great wall during gen 4 and back, along with Tentacruel. Gengar has used sludge bomb as a 5th slot since gen 4.

Scolipede, Venasaur, Roserade, Crobat, and Amoongus have all seen various stages of comp play over the years.

Gen 2 introducing Dark and Gen 6 introducing fairy were both stealth buffs for Poison.

The only reason poison types went on every team since gen 1 is due to the shittyness of grass mons. If grass had been a better type then poison by nature would have seen more play. Adding in Fairy has helped it immensely.

Remember jolteon? Gen 4 was chock full of them to try and counter the Gyarados spam...now since Gyarados is either mega or not around Jolteon has dropped off usage completely.

Theres only a handful of pokemon that have retained viability since their inception.

not sure yet, it has potential but everyone is all up in a tizzy about Phermosa and Buzzwole, with xukitree behind em.

Nihilego could be a sleeper mon though, its biggest problem will be surviving a physical meta. the more special orientated gen 7's meta is, the more Nihilego can shine.

Unless it gets banned to ubers and then it fades to obscurity.

there, now ice is an okay typing defensively but is still primarily an offensive type. Some of the more defensive ice types actually have something they're good against, ice and ground get nerfed a bit, etc. The flying thing isn't really needed, though, since there's not really that many good flying types now that bravest bird is gone.

A lot of poison types were shit because they had awful stats, like Arbok and Beedrill. Many are still good, but just are outclassed in OU due to not having the right stat distros. The Nidoroyals have always been pretty good, but haven't been OU in forever, Weezing was pretty good for a while but once the power creep got bad it didn't have the defenses to be that good, Crobat, Roserade, and a few others saw some time in the limelight, too. Poison's only real downside is a ground weakness, but a lot of poisons mitigate this through an immunity or are not defensive pokemon and don't care much for a weakness to a defensive attack that is really hard to spam.

Gen 6 gave us 3 bug mega's that dominate OU and VGC, with a 4th mega sitting in UU just waiting for its time to shine (fuck you gen 7 for not having beedrilite.)

gen 7 gave us more wonderful bugs to use.

Face it anon, bug has been a threat for a couple gens now, Scizor went from being a shitmon to OU the team after bullet punch. Literally, the only thing that changed with Scizor was a move and it skyrocketed from NU hell to OU
