The bigger question is, why is Lycanroc's movepool so shallow when Rockruff was pushed to be posterchild of this generation? I expected a Lucario-tier movepool from these guys and not one dimensional gimmicks.

It's not BAD, just really mediocre. Which is something that could be said of 90% of the new Alola mons. If they just had that little something extra they would be good, but it's like they were intentionally gimped. ie. Unovamons.

They needed the stereotypical defensive Rock-type. Look at Nihilego, is also a defensive Rock-type but with higher Sp. Defense than the regular Rock-type.
