Yes, good riddance to the old Gym leader based system. Totem Pokémon that are able to provide some sort of strategy and the game constantly being 2v1 is making the games a lot more challenging and fun

Self imposed is if you are adding rules that don't exist in the game eg: nuzlock. Turning exp off is a legitimate function of the game and arguably game freaks answer to a difficulty setting.
