Storywise, the quality of the writing is fanfiction tier. It's bland, boring, extremely cliche and predictable, not to mention the terribad characters.

Lillie is a Mary sue who has way too many cutscenes,

Hau is your typical annoying comic relief,

all the trial captains are shallow plot devices,

Gladion is an edgy faggot who gets zero character development,

main villain is evil for such a stupid reason ("MUH JELLYFISH"),

and the protag is Mary sue mk 2,

I know Pokemon games are meant for kids but that's not an excuse to make your story shit beyond belief. Digimon, even though it targets the same demographic as Pokemon, is miles better at writing stories that everyone can enjoy.

Don't get me started on the gameplay itself. It's a fucking mess.

Platinum has really good battle music, a lot better then S/Ms trainer and wild pokemon music.
As for starters, Torterra is amazing, and Empoleon is pretty nifty, Infernape is pretty meh but people seem to like it I guess.
