You know there's multiples of certain legendaries, right? The Mewtwo in XY is not the same as the Mewtwo in RBGY. The Lugia and Ho-Oh in Colosseum are not the same as the Lugia and Ho-Oh in GSC

I've always assumed pokemon games are just some super rich peoples idea of a summer camp for their children. Everything makes sense, the rare starter mon giveaway, the dex, the kid wandering around alone, the kid winning everything and eventually becoming champ, the kid saving the world etc.

Gameplay mechanics aren't canon. The only reason most legendaries don't have a specified gender or egg group is because the programmers don't like it when players attempt to mass produce unique or rare Pokemon.That being said, egg groups are usually shit/nonsensical anyway and tell absolutely nothing about the biology of that species of Pokemon.

Also, consider the word "Species"; most legendaries aren't unique specimens. If we are to believe that Mew is indeed the ancestor of all Pokemon, they must have some way of making more of themselves.
