Fic catalogue:

FAQ:
>Posting fics?
Link to Pastebin, FFN, AO3, or G-Docs, etc. Don't write stories to the thread itself.

>NSFW fics?
Links are permitted. Do label as such.

>Add my fic to the catalogue?
You're free to do so. Please use the submission form found inside the catalogue

>What's with the tripfags?
Authors are encouraged to put on a trip while posting or discussing their content, as it makes discussing their works easier.

Topic Of The Thread: You just finished a fic upon which you worked for weeks/months/decades. How do you behave when you come down from that high?
• Can't bare to look at those words ever again?
• www.fanfiction.net/stats/story.php + F5F5F5F5
• "Open for requests!"
• Swear to never write a fanfic again, knowing you'll break that oath next week?
• Smoke in bed with your still-warm manuscript beside you?
• Or, something even more intriguing?
>>
>>30041588
ToTT: Mostly a mixture of number two and this: reread my prose over and over and over until number one sets in. Nothing quite like reading your own work until you hate every last little mistake you made.
>>
Previous was full of PMD pimping but the only update I noticed was:

Ee4ee, Big Shoes To Fill, Chapter 9.
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12125737/9/Big-Shoes-to-Fill
http://archiveofourown.org/works/7944409/chapters/19689262

So go do that.
>>
Huh, I've been playing too much Sun and I didn't notice the writethread was back until just now. Here's hoping it can stay alive.

>TOTT
In such a situation, I'd probably take it easy for a bit before starting to think about future stories and how to write them. I've always got tons of random ideas floating around my head, so there's always something that I could potentially start working on. The main difficulty is turning those ideas into more than just vague concepts, as well as staying motivated and focused.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to Route 3.
>>
>TOTT
If I stop writing I die
I'm like a degenerate Spoink
>>
>>30044057
At least writing is more productive than just bouncing up and down.
Sometimes.
>>
>>30042747
>Nothing quite like reading your own work until you hate every last little mistake you made.
I read to death before I post, so instead I hate every last little mistake that somehow escapes into the wild. How the hell do they hide so well?
>>
>>30044985
>how do they hide so well
By pretending to be punctuation marks. It's the only way I could let "he" when it was supposed to be "the" past my sights after spell checking, editing and deliberating over my prose.

A main issue of mine is I usually release something proud of what I've made. Then I tear it apart.

It's likely a result from releasing on a chapter based schedule and from getting slowly better at writing throughout the course of the work. I end up thinking, "Wow, I'm a better writer now than I was then, and I could have done all of this so much better." Maybe I do this to confirm I'm improving. But, no improvement is ever enough so the cycle continues.
>>
>>30045683
>I end up thinking, "Wow, I'm a better writer now than I was then, and I could have done all of this so much better."
I've been able to tidy up some things in old work, but I haven't improved enough to really change anything. Feels uncomfortable man.
>>
>>30047074
You could be plateauing in your current style. I was a while back so I took up writing in different styles and on different subjects and recently different genres. That's been helpful in letting me reevaluate work from a new perspective. But this assumes you don't practice other styles or genres or what not, and I don't want to do that.

Shits tough either way though.

So I want to do a quick snippet about the UB-02 Beauty. So far I have a small plan in which the male protagonist is having a hard time trying to interact with Pokemon and other people because one follows him wherever he goes (in close quarters at that too), scaring them away for reasons obvious. But after that my mind draws a blank as to what to do from there on. Any ideas?

Would prefer to keep it SFW if I can, though I can bend it to suggestive if needed.

I would just like to point out that with Ch.9, BSTF is now finished. I decided Ch.10 would do better as an intro to the next story.

So, on that note:
TotT: Well BSTF was just over 60k words in just under 3 months. I dropped something like 16k words in the three days leading up to its release, got four hours of sleep, then had to do six hours of yardwork. So I celebrated its release in the following way:
>Pick up Sun and some good food on the way to friends
>Take a three hour nap while they leave to do copious drugs, because tired as fuck and not THAT degenerate
>Play until I beat the first trial
>Sleep for ten hours.
I'm not gonna even turn a computer on until I get back home Monday, then I need to do a minor revision pass on Ch.8 for some critiques by cge and Snapath, and whatever revisions Ch.9 will need.
Then I start work on the sequel.
Wew.

>>30048838
You have thought of a conflict. That could be part of a story but it's not a story in itself. What's the context for this conflict?
• Why does this pokemon cling?
• How much trouble does this cause MC?
• What is MC willing to do to change this status quo?

With PMs and one-shots and posting in these threads it has to be six digits

>>30049206
I've never seen a reason to shy from lewd ideas. It gives you an opportunity to refine mature approaches to the subject matter and create something more than, "I'm gonna take this dick and stick it real deep in you girl." It also means you sometimes get something completely different by the story's end. Like with SA. That was a hell of ride to write out.

so Ee4ee about dat dere last chapter you posted

it's pretty good

I like the fact that there's tangible character development in this and latias isn't quite the paranoid unstable stalker-type she used to be, at this rate she may actually become a functioning member of society. michael is still michael, it's hard to tell what he really wants at times because we still don't have a full picture of whatever happened in his past (not like we do with Clayton and Latias either but we get a general sense of how Latias feels). he seems to swing between empathy towards Latias and seeking to befriend her to treating her like an intelligent pet and continuing with that "know your place, Pokemon" nonsense. I guess I can't really fault him for having the standard narrow-minded trainer viewpoint towards Pokemon but I can't really empathize with him all that much either. latias is either still desperate for any sort of human contact or so lacking in self esteem that she's willing continue being treated like a second class citizen

there's some good interactions with the rest of the townsfolk towards the end, hopefully we get to see latias get to go around town a bit and offer rides to random people
>>
>>30049705
>offer rides to random people
Latias seems to be a rare-enough species that you'll probably need to custom order a suitable saddle.

No, I haven't written any more chapters since Chapter 4. I'm holding off on writing the Combee story to give myself some time to gather my thoughts and plan the rest of it out, since it's entering the second half and I want to make sure it all makes sense.

Right now, I'm keeping myself from atrophying by trying out a shorter story based on a request you might've seen mentioned around here regarding a Ribombee and a Vespiquen. Once that's done, I'll get back to Outcast of Comb Island. I hope to get to it before December, but considering I have final exams coming up, I can't tell how much time I'll have to write. I fully intend to get back to it at some point, though, and I hope it won't take too long.

You cheeky cunt, is that comic sans?

Feels a little weird from a PMD point of view, as in the narrator feels disjointed from the shock of suddenly becoming a pokemon. If there were a little more description with the direction I'm feeling from them, it'd be closer to someone who has finally achieved lichdom and changed their form rather than a person panicking because their body is completely different, though I suppose that might be due to general disorientation and the fact that it's multiple parts.

The narration in general is somewhat misdirecting and difficult, most of all at the end of the paragraph where the Kadabra holds up spork and points it upward, yet the next paragraph makes it immediately apparent that they're talking about the spoon rather than actually pointing somewhere with it because of the very last subject mentioned. I'd personally tone down the "The voice he uses ... delicate of situations." kind of shit since it implies knowledge of a larger and more awkward scale than a first person perspective can possibly know. You don't really need much more fluff other than their voice was notably soft.

I say we move it back to the OP instead of leaving it in the recap. I believe it fits in better there alongside the other thread info like the IRC, FAQ, fic catalog, and whatnot instead of with the recap. Plus, as cge said, moving it seems to have caused some confusion. So I think it might be best to put it back in the OP, in my opinion.

>I like the fact that there's tangible character development in this and latias isn't quite the paranoid unstable stalker-type she used to be
This was one of the main points of the chapter, to show her character (finally) coming back around thanks to a little perspective jolt. I'm glad that came through!

>>30049705
>he seems to swing between empathy towards Latias and seeking to befriend her to treating her like an intelligent pet
(I don't believe these need be exclusive, as long as respect for intelligence is maintained.)

>>30049705
>I guess I can't really fault him for having the standard narrow-minded trainer viewpoint towards Pokemon.
This is me failing as a worldbuilder as much as of a writer; I haven't quite drawn clear lines around how I want these things to be defined in the story yet. On one hand I wanted it plain there were differences, this isn't supposed to be one of the "Pokemon are differently-shaped people" settings, but on the other hand I didn't want to depict them as Animals Plus with all the resultant trappings. Throw in a communication barrier or two and shit gets murky. I was trying to walk a line between them and might have wandered a bit.

> latias is either still desperate for any sort of human contact or so lacking in self esteem that she's willing continue being treated like a second class citizen
(Yes)
As her 'normal' nature reasserts itself after her years-long funk, she's quickly going to grow out of her clinging nature. The upcoming story should show that soon enough.

I've been thanking you for every review but would like to thank you moreso now, it's meant a lot. You, cge, and Snapath have consistently given me great feedback on BSTF and I hope you'll all continue for the sequel. There's a couple anons in there too but I can't really thank a nameless horde, as few in number as I suspect them to really be. If any are reading this, thank you as well, and I hope you stick around!

The sequel is going to be something a little more adventury, so starting with my next chapter release there's going to be a bit of a change of pace, but I'm going to be picking stuff up where I left off in BSTF as well (continuing Alata and Michael's developments etc)

All couple of you who were looking forward to Engineer Flygon and Operator Absol will be getting that too!
>>
Anybody been inspired by anything in Sun/Moon yet? A few non-spoiler things I thought were interesting:

>Z-moves are physically tiring for trainers.
This seems like it would be interesting to explore. Consequences of overuse both short and long term, mechanics behind energy transfer, pokemon making fun of their trainers whenever they do the dumb little dance, etc.

>Pokemon seem achieve some distorted language several times throughout the game.
I'm not 100% on this being intentional, but it was noticeable enough for me to jot a note about it. The two specific examples that come to mind are Totem Mimikyu - "Seeeeee meee!?" - and the vacationing, famous pikachu that "shoo"s you away.

>Rotom speaks! And the library has books for pokemon.
There's been a lot of speculation over the years about just how intelligent pokemon are in the games and Rotom blows it all out of the water. Even though its impact on the story is pretty minimal, Rotom is a legitimate character that I ended up liking more than most of the actual cast. What surprised me was how casual everyone was about it. I don't think the fact that it was a talking pokemon drew even a single comment from anyone in the game.

>"Grimer eat garbage. But if they run out of garbage to eat, sometimes they start taking bites out of nearby buildings. We Janitors have to use our formidable skills to keep them in check!"
This was just hilarious to me and begs to have something written about it.

>Porygon are used as workers in space.
A neat bit of world-building. Would you trust unattended pokemon to maintain your solar powered microwave death ra--, power generation system?
>>
>>30108641
>Rotom/intelligent
The games have never been ambiguous on the fact at least SOME pokemon have human-levels of intelligence and awareness, pokedex entries as far back as first gen will tell you as much.
>>
>>30108641
>I don't think the fact that it was a talking pokemon drew even a single comment from anyone in the game.
Anime canon has allowed the Pokedex to have voice synth since Gen Wun, so that can probably be brushed off as Rotom merely manipulating the device's existing capability.

>tfw wrote about a Rotom inhabiting a trainer's device years ago in LL Chapter 9; nobody thought it was a cool idea then.

>>
>>30111208
>Tell me about it.
Okay.
I started it while writing Eternally Vernal, hit a writer's block, and hoping to see past it I instead saw before where I began, so I started writing from an earlier viable starting point to where I began, but it felt like I was rushing it, and not-rushing-it is the long way around and basically rewrites the whole story from what I thought it would be to something else. So here's hoping Something Else is a better story. Considering my recent record, it'd be hard to sink lower.

>>30111374
That's a poorly defined unit. How many kilo-words do you regard as novel-length?
>>
>>30111600
100k < novel < 350k
Since I don't actually know how long I'm going to be writing this, that's about as vague as it gets. Basically anything over 100k seems to be absolutely not what I'm about. Chapters are harder to care about, I've already exhausted most of my motivation I started with, and I'm much more liable to shirk a page or two every day as long as I worked on it at all.
>>
>>30111600
Yikes. But hey, if something else is better, then be proud to write it.

>>30111682
I personally define novels as between 50k and 500k. As far as I'm concerned you've already written one and this one is twice as far along.
>>
>>30111989
Novellas are a thing that exist though, and it doesn't really matter what I define MoM to be considering I still have a very long way to chug along before I can actually consider it done. I can't help but feel that 70k is around my max, or is at least near the point where I would start to get bored or tired of producing a single story and dealing with the heavy editing and continuity issues.

>a tendency to understate things
And to over-remember trivial details in things that I write. I'm still upset that I had to check the text because I'd forgotten that Rotom's name. I wonder if he'll get an appearance in O/C as I rewrite it—he didn't find an appropriate moment to appear during the cameo moment in E/V. Before it would've been my usual callback, but now that Rotom-dex is a thing I'll be the one appearing to be derivative while writing my fan-fiction.

>>30116308
>Have you ever actually written something you deem a "wasteful disaster"?
After completing Can't Escape I considered a series of one-chapter serial sequels. After writing one and letting somebody read it, my concerns were confirmed. I repeated the mistake with One-way Mirror when I considered doing a one-shot each month so I wouldn't have a year between releases. Flop, splat, whistle and walk away…for a year and a half.

>>30111885
I hope to ultimately be, but my philosophy is largely to just let the story write itself, but it's gone backwards and looped around and can't return on the same path by which it went so I feel like I'm meddling to the max.

Oh well, I'm not new to spending hours writing material that I then throw away and start over, just not in fiction… this is supposed to be the fun hobby at which I barely scrape together a win once in a while.

>>
>>30118963
Hate to say it, but yeah. Wasn't super into the idea to start so I probably was going to wait a long while to write it. Since this'd cover the same kinks, it'd probably take a while longer before I get back into that mood.

>>30119196
Furry stuff, Beast with vertebrates, and anything underaged are my limits. Yeah, I know most of the characters in Pokemon are canonically children, but I always write them assuming they're a legal 18+ version. I'm also pretty picky when it comes to more human-ish Pokemon. Machamp doesn't sound very interesting, but Hypno, Gardevoir, and Tsareena are fine.

Gurochan-tier stuff I can write but its iffy. Regarding guro Intense Guro with eyes getting gouged or organs getting played with grosses me out, but say ripping off the arm of a succubus who can regenerate it later is fine.. Regarding scat: some aspects of it are actually prominent fetishes of mine, but I keep it away from places like here where it'd just gross people out. I occasionally post it in /aco/ or /trash/ and keep it on a blog where I post all my stories.

I'm a bit of a fetish sponge. So long as someone's fantasy makes me feel their enthusiasm for it, I'll probably be at least a little into it.

And One-Way Mirror may have been poorly received because you throw the reader in the middle of a situation and end the story before anything is explained properly. There are things hinted and implied, but not enough to leave the reader with anything more but a sense of disorientation.

I was thinking on that ages old request for pic related, as I often do when my brain refuses to think about writing my actual stories. That nobody has done it yet I find a little surprising, I thought it was a compelling prompt.

>>
>>30124862
I do still have an interest in it! I'm just running in circles when it comes to implementation, I'm not really sure how I want to do it.

Trying to get BSTF finished before SM's release (kinda-sorta accomplished? 5AM the day of) ate most of my time. I do want to get the intro and maybe the first chapter of the sequel out into the wild so those people expecting more can get a taste of what's coming, but this thing has been gnawing on my brain for a long time now.

I'm not sure how l-lewd I'd write it, that depends on what I end up settling on, but I'll still aim to include it if I can.

>not enough to leave the reader with anything more but a sense of disorientation
I'm beginning to reluctantly accept that even my readers (which I hold to be somewhat of a rare and elevated breed) unfortunately fall into a expectation that my stories will resolve in a traditional way, despite my prioritizing communicating an experience. D/P's shifting tone like a corrective slap to the back of the head, E/V making it clear early and reminding often that it's about choosing one's fate when facing one's destiny, OWM being narrowly framed while the rest of the world steps into and out of KJ-19's scope—I don't want to tell a story, I want these characters' experiences to be felt.

These polarized reactions I receive I truly take as compliments, because weak writing would never trigger them—weak writing would get a limp "cool story bro, kinda a bummer ending though," not a literal "I can't look" reaction, which is what E/V's gotten twice, one from a reader who was with me until just before I posted the end, and another from Ee4ee who is repelled by word of how others have reacted to it combined with my admission that it's bare-knuckled like D/P was.

Which is a shit portent for my next piece, because it's currently all about experience. (Hence the writer's block; it's refused to show me the denouement.)

>>30124985
>we don't have any poems
I tried a few ways.

Unworthy of note.
>>
>>30125091
>a literal "I can't look" reaction
Not for fear of it's content, as I think we've been over enough in other formats. I still hold you could have kept D/P's bleaker ending but executed it far better, or hell even made it darker and gotten away with it after some changes to its structure.

This post chain should be reinforcing my comments from Over There about how much you leave to 'mystery'; we don't want happier endings, we want better-explained ones.
>>
>>30125268
>made it darker
What's darker than losing everything?

>we want better-explained ones.
D/P explains everything.
• Diaphanous Perception: A perception that can be seen through.
• Penetrating the Veil, As Told By Maggie: It's not a sex pun because she wouldn't penetrate. She is the one experiencing the breakthrough.
• The magistrate says, "his behavior was, however, with clean conscious"—not "clean conscience." I don't think anybody caught that Freudian homophone: It isn't that Manny feels innocent, but that his actions are under a condition of consciousness unsullied by reality, not doubly sullied by reality plus illusion.
• The magistrate also says that once aware, Manny discontinued such "acts," which is in conflict with what the readers have read.

Of course, Magdalene didn't figure the whole thing out until after the events of D/P transpired, so by not "getting it," everybody's once again sharing the protagonist's experience.

Which is why I said that D/P is just right. :3

>Come home to people liking my stuff again
Shiet, I don't have much else to offer to that degree of quality if you're on the hunt for special doggos only. I got some REAL good Suicune lewds in there if that's a market you peruse, and my Poppy O'Possum stuff is very experimental and ignored most of the time. There's a Fates fic as well if you're into localized garbage. It's been a while since I've gotten praise like this, anyway, so that's pretty rad.

>>30131463
DTFJ was the very first thing I wrote after PSMD came out, and since the pairing of snek/doggo was already popular, I just decided to take my characters and make them ambiguous so that anyone's pair could fit right in. 'Cuz of this, it's mostly an individual fic aside from the pokemon that are used. Either way, I've heard decently often that the ongoing sequel to Ears is lower in quality and that I'm trying too hard, so take it with a few grains of salt when you do get the time to catch up. Feel free to toast my shit if you find any problems.

So far, not really. At this time, it only confirms some ideas that I've had for my Pokéverse setting since long ago are senseful and workable. But nothing "new and shiny".

>Z-moves are physically tiring for Trainers
Makes sense. Sharing life energy or whatever equivalent has never been free, not even in settings such as Dragon Ball Z where even your mom can into the Genki Dama. But I'm all in for mons commenting on the JoJo poses.

>Pokémon intelligence

>Porygon are used as workers in space
Wasn't this suggested by one of the scientist NPCs back in FR/LG? But yeah, it's interesting. I'm pretty sure Pokémon can handle Death Stars better than humans, considering it already comes native to them and the last human in charge of one was AZ aka the Pokéverse version of Kefka.

Just wait until she sees a big city for the first time

On that note, how do you guys handle canon cities in stories? "More spread-out towns" like the games with few exceptions, or up-scaled appropriately?
Unrelated; It was nice getting my fucking ass kicked in Sun. Lusamine, Kukui, and Anabel all fucking shafted me on my first runs, though the first of those was made real easy when she let me +6 my Salazzle's SpAtk. The other two I had to savescum my way to a delicate strategy, probably because I was three levels down and refused to use Solgaleo, but that was a first for me since Emerald. Anyone else find the games more difficult than the franchise's recent trajectory?

I'm happy to hear my feedback and commentary hasn't just been aimless rambling. Sometimes I feel like it is, but if it's helped you, then that makes me feel a lot better.

Speaking of feedback, have some more.

I looked over the additions to chapters 6 and 8, and finished chapter 9. I think the additions did nicely in terms of fleshing out Cathy and Steve, and chapter 9 was also good. It felt like an effective conclusion and wrapped everything up well. I also liked the comfy/snuggly parts. I'm a sucker for those types of scenes.

I really can't think of anything to critique besides the following typos.

>but paused and reached out to grasped her claw
Should be either "reached out to grasp her claw" or "reached out and grasped her claw"
>"I guess he has," she said, still looking towards she could plainly see it for herself, though to his human eyes the fox's silent stare revealed nothing, inspired a note of jealousy.
Something's not right about this sentence grammatically, but I don't know what exactly. You might want to double check it.
>She pushed her head out of his grip and nuzzled his cheek
>Alata pulled back from Michael's shoulder "Sorry?"
>"I told you I was done with that. I was going to help," he subvocalized
Missing periods.
>Nola face lit up like she'd won a prize.
Should be "Nola's"

Also, I think I remember you saying that you stayed up all night to write chapter 9, or something along those lines. I'd like to point out that I don't think the chapter suffered for it. I also want to advise you to please not do that again, if possible. Sleep's more important than writing, though I admit it sounds crazy.

And that's about it. Y'know, I remember when I started reading Big Shoes to Fill way back when, before I even started using a name here. It's been a while since this story began, but I'm glad I got to follow along and read it to its conclusion. Good show, Ee4ee. I look forward to--and wish you luck on--your next story.
>>
>>30140813
Eh, I'll give it until after the midfight with Spiritomb. There might be a little more distance for her to make after actually living a life-threatening situation in which both their motives are laid bare.

>>30140834
Oh don't worry, Scent of the Northern Wind starts with 5k words of fluff and ends with another 3k. Corny shit is around 70% of what I write, though it's all spread out over the few fanbases I contribute to. Did you know that the Fire Emblem general's fic catalog was so predominantly smut that I didn't have a scroll bar in the sfw section?

You'll have to ask the thread, I'm a huge cunt that doesn't like reading but likes making things for people to read.
>>
>>30140857
>so far
How far in are you? It was retarded easy for me until after the third trial, at which point the only difficulty was figuring out how to approach each totem battle to set up a way to one-shot it with a Z-move (which to be fair was actually a little bit difficult), but after I beat the third Kahuna the difficulty picked up, and those three final main story fights were crushing.

>>30141065
Your feedback is absolutely helpful, and I thank you again for all of it!

>comfy/snuggly parts
I'll admit I wish I had spent more time actually showing the characters having some fun, but not much fun was really had in that two week span. The storm scene in Ch.2 was added when I merged it based on a suggestion Vryheid gave me, and I was waffling on the RBI planing bit in Ch.6, but ultimately glad I shoved them back in. I really really enjoyed writing the first two scenes in Ch.9 because I felt it was more than time for characters to finally be happy around each other for more than a few moments.

I'm not sure how snuggly the sequel's going to get, but everyone will be happier at least, and I'll get to show Alata return to a 'normal' personality she wasn't reflecting most of BSTF.

> I think I remember you saying that you stayed up all night to write chapter 9
Well 5AM is when I usually get to bed, the problem was I had to get up early the next morning and get to yardwork. I do love my sleep, and I know there are a few writers in here who hold crazier hours than I do...

> It's been a while since this story began, but I'm glad I got to follow along and read it to its conclusion.
And I'm very glad you stuck around! I hope you'll follow me through the sequel, though tonally it'll be different, an adventure affair with a bigger cast (I received something of a challenge in another feedback channel about my on-screen character count and I intend to beat it). It's been a crazy ride and I learned a lot thanks to all the feedback. On to the next experiment!
>>
>>30140857
It was easy for me until about the fire trial, but that might be because I swapped out half my team

Idk, I can't bring myself to use Z-Moves, I don't really feel as I've earned them as of yet
>>
>>30140593
It was much more difficult. My team was 5-10 levels below the elite four when I got there. I may have hurt myself by not putting much effort into building a good team and ended up being weak against dark/ghost and generally squishy otherwise.

Totem Lurantis, Guzma at the Aether Foundation, and Kukui all checked me pretty hard.

My team wasn't that great either, and I was several levels down as well. Pic related is my team after the first battle of the postgame story. I didn't spend much time thinking about composition. I was left without a single fighting or ground move, and sometimes that really sucked.

My team never really changed as I went through the story, only grew. I tried to replace pokemon in my party as little as possible, the only mon that replaced another was the Alolan Ninetales, which replaced a Rufflet when I caught it as a Vulpix (It's shiny and HA!)

As you can see, most of the names are even lazier than normal. Ninetales and Decidueye I intend to make part of my line team when we get Bank, and the names make this obvious.
>>
>>30142875
>"Fuaire"
>Not "Sparkles"
Although if it's shiny, then it probably was a good idea to differentiate it, since Spark isn't shiny. And speaking of shinies, lucky you. Out of curiosity, do you remember how long it took to catch her?
>>
>>30143487
>Not "Sparkles"
I don't name my story mons after my game mons, nor do they always share genders or movesets. My normal Ninetales is named 'Lasair', and is female to boot, and my Latias is named 'Micari'.

It was my first Vulpix SOS battle, and I'm not sure how long the chain went on, I just kept going until Snow Warning came up. That she was shiny as well was just a stroke of luck. I'd guess the chain was somewhere within 30-50. A friend of mine chained for shiny Staryus after I told the assorted gathering (I was at something of an unofficial weekend-long release party among my friends) how I did it, and he reported going over 40 deep until he found one.

Fuaire is the first shiny I ever legitimately caught. Lasair is the only shiny I've gotten that wasn't from events, and I got her through breeding. The only other one I ever ran across was a shiny Raticate in Gold I accidentally KO'd, and the Gyarados doesn't count.

I like to think she was my reward for finishing BSTF.
>>

Bumping for this. Fuuuck this sounds hot
>>
It's kinda hard setting up the establishment of basic details from a previous story for the benefit of new readers, in a way that'd be interesting for the returning readers who already know them. I spent half a thousand words just restating the identities of BSTF's returning characters within a sequence I hope would still entertain and not be unbearably tellish. Knowing me it's already tellish enough, I can't afford to make that worse.

Anyway, bedtime bump. G'night /vpwt/
>>
>>30131368
I didn't say anything about exposition. The issue is that it's difficult to craft engaging characters with a one chapter limit. Perhaps I emphasized the past too much, but my meaning was that without a past and future for the characters, it's hard for the reader to care about them. For example, if I told you "Marie Antoinette was beheaded by rioters," you'd probably say "Oh, sucks," and move on. But if you learned about her whole experience as the queen of France, you'd be more engaged with her tragedy on a personal level.

I don't think they have canon names, unlike the other games' protagonists, so you can probably just make up a name without issue. Moon would work to tie in with the demo naming the boy "Sun", and Chicken could work as a joke name, but Selene sounds much more like an actual name.

Or you could take a third option and make her first name Selene and her surname Moon, since that's an actual surname, and "Chicken" could be her nickname.

You made that? It looks good, actually. I don't know what the context is, but I recognize good old Dagoth Ur back there, and I can guess that the scene is in Red Mountain.
Meanwhile, the most I've done in MS Paint is recoloring old Pokemon sprites.

Curve tool, man. I already know exactly what the cover to MoM would be, but that'd take a few more hours of my life than I'd care to waste since I can't even figure out how to embed in AO3

You guys are making me wonder if I can commission an artist to make me a cover for a story. Or at least trying to draw past stick figures myself.

>"Why did I think that line was a good idea?"
>"Why is everyone in this fic such a smartass?"

I spend a lot of time lingering on sections because I either get stuck on how shitty something sounds or I notice inconsistencies in the plot/characterization. Even if it's porn or parody, disregarding canon altogether means one might as well just use their own characters.

I wish Flygon was more popular, than my google images searches might not be so full of pictures degenerate and/or shit.

But popularity breeds degeneracy, and Flygon is actually decently popular by most standards considering it's one of the more tame dragon types.

By the look of >>30167127, every character you've rounded up are ones that are popular in enough senses to be riddled with porn. I know these things, I'm the degenerate.

Anyone wanna write Lillie/Gladion porn

I'll inevitably do it myself too but still.

Aw dammit not again

Fine. If I'm not going to accrue any fanart on my own, I'll just make the fanart myself and call it the cover.

Doesn't google base the results off of what you frequently look at?

That's why my google image searches are so full of pictures degenerate and/or shit.

* cge is amused, since his first big Pokemon writing project was supposed to be a graphic novel—never got off the ground—yet everybody seems to be all fired up over "covers" when they're not actually creating tangible books and surely know that books should not be judged by their covers.

>I'll just make the fanart myself
At least you can. The last time I used MS Paint I realized that the spray paint tool was more likely to accidentally put the right colors on the right pixels than I could were I to try for over 100 hours.

>they're not actually creating tangible books and surely know that books should not be judged by their covers.
Of course, but making covers can be fun. At least it seems that way based on the times I've thought about how I could make covers for my own stuff, though I've never actually tried to make such a cover beyond just imagining what it might look like (and then feeling sad because I could never draw it as good-looking as I imagine it).

I wasn't fired up, it was more idle busywork in a moment of broken focus.

Y'all know I default to omniscient narration.

That's why we suffer a thousand words each instead.
