I don't think Nanu's being an ass to her. He's more like a tsundere type character. He pretends he doesn't care about anything but actually cares a lot.

He helps you in Po city, denies to be an E4 for Acerola and helps Looker a lot in postgame. Also his signature pokemon is Alolan Persian, unobtainable when friendship is not full. Overall, he's a good guy I think.
