No, quick link is not local only, but the process for trading with a friend on your friends list over the internet is weirdly convoluted. First, make sure you're actually connected to the internet. If the banner in your festival plaza bottom screen says "connected to local wireless communication" then you need to click on the blue wifi symbol button at the bottom right of the screen to connect to the internet. When that's done, make sure your friend's connected to the internet in the same way, then do trade > link trade > and if their name doesn't appear on the guest list, then hit the "update" button.

All quick link does is allow you to pick someone out on your guest list to initiate a trade with. By default, you're not connected to the internet when you enter festival plaza, so it draws guests only from local wireless, so you need to connect to the internet first if the person you want to trade with isn't physically nearby.

You use the rocks on the sides of the screen. Each one has a different amount in the stack. The order is 2, 1, 4, 3 if I remember correctly. Sometimes when you walk towards one, you go off to another part with no rocks, so just walk back the way you came and then go to the next rock number.

You hold B for it to sniff around. A blue exclamation mark pops up when an item is nearby, and a red one when you're right in front of the item. It's a really shitty item finder.

Your best bet with Mallow's trial is to find the items manually. It's super-easy. There are four branching routes, each one with an item, and each item is in a very obvious empty space (or in one case, in short grass, which one of the signs says). Look for different textures in the overworld, such as the burn mark-looking thing under the final rock you smash for one of the items. It's really easy when you just look around.

There aren't. The Trial Captains can be fought after the main story is beaten but they're just like regular trainers with ~lv60 Pokemon.

The equivalent of gym battles are the Totem battles which I personally thought were shit (especially the constant summoning of reinforcements which /vp/ is circle-jerking over because it lets you chain for shinies and IVs, but I personally hated it so much with wild Pokemon that I used Walk Through Walls just to avoid wild battles, and waited until post-game to get Quick Balls and just catch everything that way).

Most of the trials are insultingly easy quizzes or stupid fetch quests or "beat up some wild Pokemon" crap.

Fullness goes down over time/after battle. Feed 'em beans to fill them back up and gain affection for it.

Enjoyment is gained after they have been petted to the max, and then start producing musical notes instead of hearts. Keep petting them until you max out enjoyment.

As far as I know, both are completely pointless. Affection is the most important stat, and when it's maxed, it doesn't really fall much, and it'll give you crazy battle hax sometimes.

So if your Pokemon has 30 Attack IVs and you use a bottle cap to increase it, it'll still have 30 Attack but it'll act like it has 31 Attack. That means that when you breed it, it'll still only be able to pass on 30ATK.
