I remember just finding the DP eps in japanese. Made me drop the dub entirely, finishing up about half the series subbed.

This lead to me getting extremely excited for BW. We all know how that turned out.

I went into XY with cautious optimism, and that turned out to be an actual good 100+ episode anime.

SM looks pretty great in the animation department, but I hope it gets a little more serious as it goes on. Maybe with Disney having the dub, they might use the Japanese ost.

I tend to wonder how many people who haven't watched the anime in years will come back for Sun/Moon. A lot of people came back for XY because they heard about competent Ash, Serena's crush, the improved animation....but a lot of these casuals dropped the show when they heard Ash lost the league again.

Sun/Moon will probably attract some people back too, but I wonder how much.

I've always steered clear of the series for two reasons:

1) the plot is always garbage (introduce new Pokémon, Team Rocket tries to steal new Pokémon, TR blasts off again, rinse repeat)

2) the animation and character designs are always garbage

Speaking for myself what really conquered me was the new style. The plain and brilliant color palette and the fact that it seems more comedic, more like a feel good anime, is really appealing to me since I'm 25 and this is still a children's anime.

I think people are making the mistake in assuming this is going to be more plot driven or something since there's no Gyms or whatever...but each saga still needs to last 100+ episodes. There will be tons of eps just to introduce new pokemon as usual.

well, there's a smaller dex this time too so I think there'll be a lot more creative freedom to do more character driven episodes. They're never going to waste the UBs, tapus and legendaries on filler so that's a huge chunk of the dex gone. They can hit the quota for pokemon really easily and I think that may lead to more episodes which are more focused on Ash and co. themselves

Do people really not like the old animation anymore? I can still rewatch old AG and DP episodes or old Kanto episodes and say, "This episode looks good."

You just have to accept the episodes for the time period they were made for. Its like comparing PS2 graphics to the PS4 or something...or the Gamecube to the Wii-U. Of course the newer stuff is going to look better.
